Thinking of knocking it on the head. No full cold turkey but cut it down to 1 day a month. Maybe look forward to it more but wondering if it will make me fully binge drink if I go that route.

It smells and tastes like Dettol, leave it unopened…..
about a third gone now, tho' been some cheeky beers and the odd wine in-between.

i used to drink more regular: late-teens to mid-20's was a rare day when i didn't have at least a beer. Now in my mid-40's it's a modest couple of units once or twice a week.

According to this under-40's shouldn't drink at all:

Used to go out every week on the Saturday all-dayers in my younger days but getting black-out drunk led to trouble once in a while and eventually I got so paranoid worrying about what might have done or said the previous night that I jacked it in. Unbelievably selfish behaviour looking back but it was a carry-over from my single days and I had a massive fear of missing out on the social side of it. Took me an age to grow up and realise it wasn't compatible with being in a relationship - and that the social side of it was nothing to worry about missing after everyone had a few pints too many.

Eventually the Saturdays faded away and I started on the Sunday afternoon, watching football in the pub habit which was better as having work the next day put a limit on it. Still the occasional blow-out when days off tallied with a session but it was nothing compared to the old Saturday sessions.

Never really got back into the habit of Sundays after lockdown and barely touch a drop these days. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I'm out with the lads in a year now.

I’m out tonight and I’m driving, cba with the hangover tomorrow. Off to Wales with my wife and lad, so I’d rather be fresh for that.

I actually don’t mind not drinking on a night out, I feel it makes other people feel more awkward than the person not drinking.

I can take it or leave it, I’m not against it or anything and I think if the hangovers weren’t so bad, then I’d probably be more up for having a bevvy.

Stuff killed my dad and in a brutal way. Only thing I’ll say is never be unwilling to admit you need help, and never assume you can beat it on your own if you have a problem.

There are always people willing to help if needed.

Horrible disease if it gets ahold of you.

None of that to say I don’t enjoy a pint, I do. But also know how truly dangerous it can be.

Not a serious drinker but when I do I go over the top. Example last weekend was away to Edinburgh, brought a cool box with a few cans/bottles. Started with a can of strongbow then my wife brings out a bottle of Champagne which she had hidden so the two of us finished that off sharply. Had a bottle of peroni while she was getting her face on then hit the town. Pints of Peroni, Tennents and Staropramen rounded off a good night but my god the headache next morning was something else. Not had a drop since but will be out tomorrow but maybe not mix my ale.

Sorry to hear that, blue.
