Argentina v Nigeria

Yakubu played well with the little he had to work with. Some good hold up play and he created two excellent chances.

Nigeria have no creativity whatsoever though, defensive midfielders and strikers playing outwide makes up there midfield. Pretty much sums up African football at present, that was clear during the African nations.

Messi "as good as Maradona".

Can we lay this one to rest? FFS, put Osman in the Argentinian #10 shirt and you wouldn't notice the difference.

A 49 year old Maradona in that Kid Creole suit would still outclass him

He looked good to me, certainly one of the best players I've seen during my time watching football.

He's a fantastic player. No question. Today he looked like he forgot what to do with the ball where and when it mattered most. Continues to underwhelm for Argentina.

I look forward to Bruce Wayne defending his proposition that Maradona has been eclipsed by young Messi.

I completely disagree, the ball was glued to his feet and he rarely gave it away. Played a deeper, more central role today than the one he does for Barca but still looked a class act. On another day he could have had a few goals. Nigeria's keeper made some excellent saves.

If that's an underwhelming performance then very few players are playing well at this level.

It's all relative. Messi having plenty of the ball and going on a few nice slalom runs isn't exactly an unknown scenario. Maybe a great game for Jose Bloggs, but it was hardly the effort of 'the greatest player the world has ever seen'. I'm hearing the likes of Lineker talking about a great performance and it's just not in synch with what I saw. I refuse to be bludgeoned into the group think.

No doubt he'll turn the dial up in the coming games.
