2024/25 Armando Broja

The decision to loan him at the August deadline, when he was a long way from fitness, was a terrible use of a loan slot by Thelwell. And it has put us in a position where we have very little flexibility this month.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Had he recovered and started to score, it’s genius deal and money saved by not paying any wages until November. His new injury is not linked to the one he arrived with either. PSR clearly meant there was very little else we could do, and Broja was best deal out there for us. It’s just a freak injury, nothing else, bit harsh to throw mud at Thelwell for that. Like all transfers, it could have went either way, and the snippets we saw of him, did show potential. Seen some people called him out over O’Brien previously too, but again, what’s he’s to do when a stubborn old fart refuses to play him. Since coming into the side, he’s been excellent and looks like he can make a career at Everton. Moyes appeared taken aback at the absolute state of our PSR position in yesterday’s press conference, so I imagine the fans are correctly being kept out the loop as to how bad things really are (until the summer) This is not a pro thelwell stance, he has made mistakes of course, but it’s only fair to offer a balanced stance, when some things are way out of his control.

He’s been ‘excellent’????? Running around a bit counts as excellent? Because I can’t remember a shot he had!! The standards we have for excellent are beyond the floor in that case. What has he shown in a handful of starts that proves he can make a a career? I saw him be a worse version of Dom for the most part - which isn’t exactly the stars. His injury record may be the other thing more impressive than DCL, Broja will never be a first choice striker for a team at this level, he has never showed it. Not at Chelsea, not at Fulham, not at Southampton, not at us.

I was referring to O’Brien doing great, not Broja! I don’t have conkers for eyeballs, I’m very much aware Broja has not been excellent.

Loaning Broja has turned out quite lucrative for us (Chelsea)

He went to Southampton and as a youngster the fee for the season long loan was said to be £1 million then he went for half a season to Fulham who had to pay £4 million for not playing him.

Whilst I would imagine that the £10 million quoted earlier is way foo my guess is that there will be two elements to the financial agreement 1) a% of his wages which didn’t kick in till his first appearance and 2) a fee which is almost certainly going to be north of £4 million.

From what I read he will be out for around 8 more of your league games if that’s right he will be available for just 7 more games.

There is absolutely no obligation for us to cancel the loan and it’s not said to be a season ending injury which further complicates

So almost certainly Chelsea would want the full fee and if he were repay another domestic loan there almost certainly is going to be a significant cost

Talk about a catch 22 !

You guys hold all the aces, we’re just the dog at the end of Chelsea’s lead. Given the sheer size of your bloated squad already, I imagine you will continue to play hardball and Broja stays, that’s Everton’s issue, not Chelsea’s.
