2024/25 Armando Broja

I’m with you there , particularly the Sports Science bit . Spend 10k or whatever it takes to do a battery of physiological/anatomical tests on him . If there’s an issue , rather than bad luck with injuries , get an opinion on what’s needed and if it’s feasible to do to keep him fit within reason .
I always think back to what Spurs did with Ledley King. Such a talented player, plagued with injuries, so they just told him not to train (or only do the training that didn’t aggravate whatever weakness he had in his body) and they got a good career out of him.

I remember reading somewhere that Linekar hardly trained during the week while he was with us. Don`t know if it was to do with injury but he certainly delivered with his goals.

….he suffered with a toe injury for much of his career, don’t particularly remember it impacting him here and we were playing 3 games per week back then.

Personally, I wouldn’t be going anywhere near Broja on a permanent deal. We have to be strict in adopting transfer strategy acceptance criteria that includes not investing monies on players with dreadful injury records.

This is a player we need to swerve and we’re in a fortunate enough position to send him back.

Play him until the end of the season, let him get the buzz of playing regularly here

Then shaft Chelsea with a low ball offer because of his injury problems. They know he’s not going to play for them, he knows it, we know it, and they know they can’t sell him to anyone else for a big fee because of his injury issues. Get him to force a move and we get potentially a good player for a pittance and take the chance on him staying fit.
We shouldn’t be confident enough to assume he would go uninjured still for large parts of the season, surely it would be better to loan him for s second season if we were certain of his quality, but not so sure in his fitness.

Yes it potentially poses a risk that he stays healthy next year and plays well so the price is driven up, but getting on a permanent in the summer off the back of 9/10 games he may play at a cheaper cost is still going to be a far bigger risk.

We only have so much financial bandwidth to cover the squad this season even if it is more than we have been recently used to spending, what would make a little more sense is extending his loan to a second season.

….that sounds fine but what use is paying his huge salary and a significant loan fee for another season when he’s hardly available?

It’s a big world out there and I’m hoping we can bring some innovation to our recruitment, we need effective footballers who have a record of being available for selection.

Chelsea won't be able to sell him for a decent fee this summer. They also won't be able to offer him a role next season. The best thing for them would be to try and loan him again, but nobody will want to pay much in terms of a fee. A successful loan next season will make it much easier for them to sell him either via a set agreement in place or to increase his value off the back of scoring loads of goals. Best option for Everton would be to go back and offer a loan with zero fee and a 50% contribution in wages. They can take it or leave it, personally not bothered either way.

I agree, was just using that as an alternative to the transfer strategy of low balling Chelsea in a permanent deal. Personally we hang around too often and too long for players who are injury prone or ‘punts’ because of how desparate we have been. I agree that if a recruitment dept is doing its job properly through scouting and analytics, there will be some gems out there but if I had to go back for Broja it would be a loan, not permanent deal.

Moyes has stated he's looking for goals or you won't be at the club very long.
This lad will be going back to Chelsea unless he he rattles a good few goals off in the run in.
That's something he hasn't done as of yet in his career averaging less than a goal every 5 games.
Read somewhere he's not scored since 2022.
I'm sure the club will be looking for better.

Yeah, when he came in, it was a huge risk but I could see it was where the club were at the time, Bodies in was seemingly the message. Next summer we will have a limited war chest, I can't for a second think we will waste a penny of it on injury prone players.
Moyes I believe will be ruthless in this regard, Broja will be a Chelsea player next season unless we get him on a significantly reduced price and wages.

I would say that would most definitely be happening. The physio has moved on from the magic sponge days
