DCL can't finish on two occasions when he was one on one against the keeper but Niasse got one good goal in behind-closed-doors game.
lol

He'll never be a clinical finisher hence why I've maintained all season if we are to seriously compete for honours/ CL football regularly we need a clinical CF alongside Richarlison with tap in merchant DCL used off the bench.

That would be a very good attack we would have.

Are tap ins only worth half?

No but if any striker struggles to score in most other ways other than headers and tap ins it massively limits there use to the team.

Say we get to a cup final and draw a Man City where we know at best your talking 3-4 chances at goal we may have - having someone who isn't clinical upfront (I dont include tap ins as clinical thats just good positional play) massively impedes your chances of nicking a result.

Im not saying he's crap im just saying Ancelotti has worked with some of the best strikers of the game and if the clubs ambitions are realistically to win trophies and compete in the champions league against the likes of Real Madrid, Dortmund, Juventus we are going to need a striker who only needs 1 chance to score in any scenario be it 1 on 1, taking on a defender and beating them, tap ins, headers etc.

Even in the best case scenario, we won't be competing against teams like that in any meaningful way any time soon.

Let's just enjoy the rest of this season before talking about sacking off one of our young players in good form.

No one is saying anything about "sacking someone off"

Our fans have a massive chip on their shoulder when it comes to players being used off the bench as if thats them being "peddled".

Its a squad game and the best teams have top squads - by your logic Jesus is sacked off by City considering he starts most games from the bench.

DCL fits the mould of an "Origi" type CF well in that he isnt prolific but is a nuisance that would be effective in chucking off the bench when balls are getting launched into the box for him to try get on the end of one.

Put it this way if we do somehow finish 4th/5th and get CL I'll have little faith in him up against the best defences from the off - its clear we need another CF regardless considering we only have him and Richarlison as our only two reliable forwards at present - its deluded to say otherwise just because we are winning games playing in only one competition with no injuries to our forwards.

What is your definition of prolific then?

DCLs ratio this season is better than 1 in 2

Your ratio is based on December - February when he's been at the club since 2017.

And again alot of his goals have been tap ins from defensive mistakes or bouncing balls from set pieces - again nothing wrong with that but you wont always get that fortune/ mistakes the higher calibre of teams we face.

Long term if he doesnt start to show he can take on defenders / score from 1 on 1's, score outside the box etc alongside the tap ins for me he should be utilised more as an Origi type off the bench.

Ancelotti tends to rotate alot anyway so its not like he'll never play but we really could do with a quality CF alongside Richarlison for the big games - someone like Immobile, Werner etc.
