No C.

He was a top player who will become a top manager. I'm not saying I dont prefer Carlo, because I do. But the amount of people who were against Arteta as manager was baffling to me.
Literally not one second of top flight managerial experience. Not one second of ANY managerial experience. Could he turn out a very good manager? Yes. But it's a lot easier to achieve a lot of wins with the firepower at Arsenal than Gylfi fn Sigurdsson, Fabian Delph and Tom Davies being your midfield generals.

Yeah but at the time people wanted him, it was looking between him and Eddie Howe, need some context.

- Signed for a relative pittance
- Probably our best player of the 2000-2010 decade
- One of our best players in this century really
- Boss follow follow follow song
- Showed up in a number of big games (Villarreal, Fiorentina, scored in a derby, etc.)
- Left after giving us about 6 years when we were seemingly stagnating between 5th and 8th place to go to candidly a better team consistently in the champs league - and he won trophies there too
- Forfeit his loyalty bonus and was sold for 10mm which was critical as Kenwright’s mismanagement left us needing sales to pay off the bank
- Did interview years after he left talking about how much he respects Everton
- Won titles as assistant manager at city
- Won a trophy at age 38 and beat chelsea and city along the way

Cried on the floor (literallly), begged to leave.

He lost respect with his antics when he played against us. He was getting applauded by the Evertonians at their ground when he was taking a corner in the first game, then showed his class by kissing the badge the after he scored. It all went south from their

Good player, but a bit of a cryarse and helmet.

Why are discussing the former Arsenal captain and now manager here.?
Surely this belongs in World Football?
In any case , good player but also a graceless little rat.
His current and future career hold little or no interest for me personally since it does not concern Everton.

I just found this thread and it made me chuckle as I always wondered about the character of this guy due to a conversation I had many years ago with an Everton employee. I was involved in some minor promotional work for a large religious event at Goodison way back during the Moyes era. Arteta was seen as one of our best players at the time and was certainly a fan favourite! I remember being in one of the lounges mingling with some of the Everton promotional staff and this woman started chatting to us about Mikel! Part of her job was getting players involved in media and social events that promoted Everton. She had to look after the players and make sure they were comfortable. I cheekily asked her what she thought of the players and she straight away pointed out that Mikel was the most difficult to deal with as he had special requirements separate to the rest of the team! For instance, he did not like travelling with together with his teammates and also bathed separately to them after games. She said he was not particularly close to anyone at the club and kept himself to himself. I remembered being shocked at what she was saying as he was my favourite player! I've always wondered since if she was telling the truth. I hope not.

Not calling you a liar here like but "not close to anyone at the club" I know straight away that absolute fiction as he was best man at Tim Cahill's wedding ( or vice versa )

Tim Cahill , Pepe Reina and Xabi Alonso therefore whatever faults he may have are entirely due to the RS influence lol
