Carrick was a very effective player in his first two seasons at United. Since then he's regressed a great deal. Rumour has it that Fergie laid into him big time after the lesson dished out to us in the Champions League final against Barca. Since then he's lost it mentally.

If Carrick had a pair of balls, he'd be an top class midfielder.

When ever I have seen him play he sits slightly deeper than the central midfield role, I think it's a role that doesn't suit him as he is not strong enough or not a good enough tackler to play there. Don't get me wrong his passing is spot on when he is on his game, but and it's a big but that doesn't seem to happen that much for him anymore.

He's a good player, like alot of English 'playmakers' he turns like a broken tank. He doesn't have quick enough feet to turn, face the play and pull the strings. If he's harried and pressed Carrick just turns into a crab, passing from side to side. When he's got time and space his qualities are there for everyone to see, he's got alot of vision and good technique.

It seems to be a problem for alot of English midfielders.

I'll say no more about Carrick - don't want to further send the thread off on a United player themed tangent!

Suffice to say, Arteta would be a revelation at United, and gain far more recognition for it...

However. Hands off unless you have a spare £50 mil. Nice one.

What p**se* me off, Moyes signs these players when no one else will give them a look and brings them on. Only for snides like Man Ure to come waving a cheque book and thus robbing us of any real chance to get in amongst them to get CL money.

Moyes needs to slap a big fee on our players.

Next season it will be Fellaini and/or Heittinga.

Arteta would walk into just about every team in the prem no worries cept 4 mabye chelsea united have cash it would be better 4 them in thelong run to buy a younger play their are hundreds of them around

Robert, I don't disagree with you, but whilst we are cash strapped that is always going to happen. We can't afford to buy the next big time Charlie because of this, otherwise we would. We are lucky to have the scouts & the manager that have an eye for talent, and can bring that talent out, be it for profit or success preferably.

Its just the way of the world isn't it.....sure Leeds were more than miffed when we took Garbutt from them for next to nothing....

Teams will just have to pay big if they want the Arteta's / Lescott's of the world from us. Lescott wasn't worth 30m in a million years, but Moyes did a grand job getting 24m for him! Well, without the 3 month saga of it all of course

Dont think the club could handle anthor lescott saga what we really neeed is to know if any players want out they can go 4 the right price and get all shopping over and done within 4 weeks

I really can't see him move.

Champions League football is definitely well within our grasp this season & it'd surely mean more to him to achieve it at a club he clearly loves for resurrecting his career, taking him to our hearts & standing by him during a 9 month layoff, rather than go for the quick fix by joining a side who are there this coming season.

Also, as regards his chances with the national side, who can be sure he even WANTS to play for them? Our Mikel is Basque after all, & has stated that he would like to, if he doesn't finish his career with us, return to Spain to play for Athletic Bilbao - a club who only play Basque players, a phenomenal statement of their nationalistic perspective.

Methinks Mikel is a very proud Basque with great ethics & that's why he's here to stay for many years to come.

I think if Manchester Utd came in for Mikel Arteta he'd be off in a flash, as would the majority of our players. It's different with the likes of City and Spurs but playing for United is one of the biggest things you can do in football. He is a loyal player but he's also ambitious, chances like that don't come around often. I wouldn't be angry with him if he where to move.

Thankfully for us I don't think they'd come in for him, he's 28 now and has had a few injuries of late. I think teams would be reluctant to pay such a big price tag despite his quality.
