Although I am wary of Williams signing for such a big fee at his age, can't argue against his qualities that we have lacked for so long.

Who'd have thought, go from a manager who can't organise a defence to one that used to be a world class one, great at organising his defence and brings in a leader at the back as well.

I don't see him as a Stones replacement and I'll be quite annoyed if he's the most significant CB we sign.

In saying that I really want Williams to sign but as a squad player someone to fight with Funes Mori and Jag's as our second CB next to hopefully another top top recruit.

Also we have purchased Galloway, Holgate and Foulds in the hope that at least one of them can make the 1st team like Stones did, and either be a rock for a decade or be sold for a big fee.

We have a lot of young potential but lack experience and leadership.

He would be an excellent signing.

i like the thought of going into the derby with williams

i highly rate him and in fact was the first to suggest him on this thread i'm a big fan....

but i don't understand the going into the derby shout....he's a lifelong red and still to this day go's to analfield

Very happy with the Williams signing if it comes in

Shame we'll never get to see Stones play next to somebody a bit more commanding like Williams.

I never expected it to happen obviously, but on paper they're like the perfect partnership. Think it will do Holgate a world of good though!

Re. Williams, it would definitely allow us some more flexibility in terms of what system we use as well - he's obviously more than comfortable in a 3 or a 4 at the back, and Koeman likes to use both systems.

Williams, combined with another defender (Kone possibly?) would at least go some way to improving us overall.

Definitely need to get some quality additions in further forward now though, and a GK ideally.

As long as they're done by Sept 1st though, then I'm happy :)
