If finding experienced goalkeepers willing to be a clear number two while still putting the work in to be ready when called upon was easy, United wouldn’t be looking to get Begovic. Not much point in giving ourselves that problem instead. Ten million.

Begovic is a very decent backup 'keeper. No point selling him when you'd have to replace him, especially at this stage.

Sergio Romero was their third choice. He desperately wanted to leave, his wife was kicking off about it on social media and they wouldn't loan him out and was asking for daft money despite knowing after that window he leaves for free.

They opted to pay his 100k a week ages until the end of the season for a third choice keeper who wanted to leave, and allow him to leave for free than let Everton sign him.

No wonder they're such a mess.
