There should really be a minimal immediate loss of life from something like this occurring. In the weeks leading up to it, it's impact area will be calculated, evacuations taken place, if it's landing in water coastlines will be evacuated etc. Hitting land will be the best thing, as it will remove tsunamis and the resulting material going into the atmosphere has a chance to potentially cool the planet down for a bit. Won't do humanity much good, but we don't deserve it the way we treat this place.
