From a Villa perspective...

very poor goals for us to concede (as all opposition goals are defendable from one perspective) but to be fair to Martinez McNeill took his shot early and it went through Konsa's legs so fair enough. poor line for the second though.

Always thought we needed to get one back before half-time to be able to go on and win it, and a great ex-Everton combo of Onana/Digne set up Watkins. I think you're being harsh on Keane here as its harder to get height from a standing position than when someone is coming onto the ball. The problem was the right-back or right-midfielder (or whoever's job it is) not tracking Digne's run and letting him have the time to pick out his cross.

At 3-1 it probably would have been done, and I wonder if DCL having a similar opportunity against Martinez at Goodison last season played on his mind? He dithered then tried to go round Emi allowing Konsa to get back. Not a great deal Keane could have done with the second either as it was unlucky that the ball bounced as it did straight into Watkin's path. I don't think I really need to mention Duran's goal too much. Wow.

Fully deserved from our perspective but worrying that we still seem to have brought our second-half of last season's defensive frailties into this season. We've now conceded 6 in 4 which isn't good for a team trying to compete at the right end of the table. You can rightly look at the two DCL chances as being game changers, but we can also look at Rogers going through in the first half and shooting straight at Pickford, Watkins putting wide when the ball was cut back to him unmarked ten yards out in the second half, Rogers poor pass when he only needed to roll the ball for Watkins to tap in for his hattrick, Ramsey not hitting it first time after Rogers shot was saved by Pickford in the second half, and at 3-2 in something like 90+3 mins Duran having a golden opportunity to nod home from a free kick in front of goal unmarked and 5 yards out but missed. So we could and probably should have put you away to have made the DCL misses irrelevant. But that's football.

Oh, what isn't football is that horrendous 'woo' chant you have. Christ its embarrassing.

Anyway, you have more than enough to stay up. We've played Leicester and you're better than them and you're definitely better than Southampton who will rival last season's Sheff U for beatings. I'll let you know last week what i think of Wolves as they were my pre-season pick for the drop. You'll be fine.

I'm currently away and missed the the game. From the highlights we were unlucky with the 2nd goal, the 3rd was a screamer and DCL had to gilt edged chances he should have picked t away.

That said though, how did we play? Was Villa winning inevitable?

Do one. It's literally one tiny part of a longer song and it's ace.

You were okay - but take away the two Everton goals it was not beyond us to have scored 3 as we were the better team. That's just the difference between the sides right now, and us being at home. Not sure what the XG was but even given those two DCL chances I think we would have been on top.
