You may be correct about agents fees etc, but I suspect that story is more to do with the possible limitations that were debated when Koeman was appointed around his management of youth.

Yeah every Southampton fan started making out that they had world class players in their academy that Koeman had been holding back, which would be bad new for our supposed "golden generation" that's coming through at the moment. So Everton have done numerous articles about how he'll give chances to any young player that's good enough. It's like a constant theme of all his interviews.
