Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

We should just stop pursuing this guy and let him go back to Zenit... at this point he deserves it.

Aye lets punish him by sending him back to a club thats got a decent shot at winning the league every season - punish him by making him play int that pesky CL tournament and make him live in the hellhole that is St Petersburg (one of the most beautiful cities in the world), that will teach the lad wont it !

He clearly isn't committed to Everton. I'd much rather have someone excited to be here instead of a player using us as a last resort.
We are hoping to buy high profile ambitious players who are good enough and want to be playing champions league football. We can not offer that right now, but we can offer money. I am sure players like McGeady would not delay if offered a decent deal to play for us.

How do you know? Have you spoken to him?

Of course not, but it seems fairly clear. As far as we know, Everton are the only club offering Zenit the deal they want, yet he hasn't signed, and continues to agree to deals with Italian clubs.

We'll never know for sure, but the perception me (and many other fans) are having is that Witsel isn't very interested in being an Evertonian.

Exactly. The badly uneducated perception of people who have no idea how football works.

You may well be right, but it stinks of sour grapes.

Why are people finding it difficult to understand why Witsel may be holding out for a bigger club?

To all of us, we may well be one of the biggest clubs in England, historically.

To Axel Witsel (or a lot of other modern players) we're likely just an average premier league side who've got a lot of money now.

I'd be more likely to call him a mercenary if he'd accepted our rumoured big offer immediately.

As will be the case with most high profile players we can now target, it's going to take a lot of persuasion and belief in our "project" in order to get them to join us, as to them it will be based on our potential and ambition for the future as opposed to our history.

What could I do to justify such 'punishment'?
