Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

Of course it is...we currently play with 2 DMs and now have added Gueye.

If we had one superstar such as Carvalho we could then just play one DM and one CM further forward. Carvalho is also a very good passer and top notch positionally so could recycle the ball very quickly and get us attacking rapidly leading to goalscoring opportunities....

Likewise we dont have a box to box player and there is a gap between the DMs and barkley, with witsel he fills the gap leading to us getting the ball up the pitch more efficiently leading to more goalscoring chances as @kithnou said.

In what universe is William Carvalho a bloody superstar?? All I saw of him at European 2016 was lots of meandering about so pretty positionally inept IMHO.

As for the gap as you so eloquently put it, you're right sort of. A more intelligent attacking midfielder would capitalise on that and manipulate the space. Said it before Ross has bags of talent no brain though. Koeman will get whatever midfielders we use to press more so McCarthy, Barry or whoever will have to adapt.

And again, we scored plenty last year we were just arse at defending.

would think Brahimi, Ziyech and a Kovacic type might be plan "b" (or c or whatever) options.

Sign Williams, that lot, a keeper and a striker (make a bid for Mandzukic? - they have an abundance of attackers) and you have 8 in and have seriously improved the squad.

New keeper = plus (one would hope)
Williams improves the back line
Kovacic/Gueye improve the midfield
Ziyech/Brahimi and a new striker improve the attack

Does it vault us to top of the table - no, but it realistically improves us all over the pitch.

Realize it is a lot of what if, but this abundance of newcomers must come from somewhere.....

we have withdrawn our bid for him basically told him and his advisors we are no longer interested. Zenith not happy. Carvalho not interested in us, we will continue to look elsewhere, however Koeman is prepared to go with what we have in midfield. Walsh has advised we should lower our sights in terms of targets until we are more established.

.....I find it very difficult to believe the statement that 'Walsh has advised we should lower our sights in terms of targets until we are more established'. He would've known our ambitions and immediate expectations when he joined, he'd have known the type of players we were wanting to get. It would be an amazing stance to take.

not really, just reality kicking in.

I'm 100% sure the fella who has been appointed DOF, with the idea of changing the perception of our club has said that.

Is your source Koeman himself? Or the voices in your head?

Left Leicester to tell us to become Leicester and before someone pipes up that they won the league yes they did and fair play but you know what I mean they'll be mid table next season and cannon fodder season after when they dump Ranieri.

This guys a delight....
Of the angels..
So to speak

Carvalho is the opposite of positionally inept. Its one of his main strengths...note that if you watched the euros you would have seen him winning it as the key DM in the side

Alternative to Witsel?

Talks over prices with PSG are back on for Matuidi, and there have been new contacts over Matic, both with the his agent and with Matic, who is agitating for a sale to Juventus, himself. Things with Luiz Gustavo have not changed. Finally, on Witsel, things are moving in the wrong direction as Zenit continues to make demands beyond what Juventus intends to agree to.

Looks like this saga is coming to an end
