Baines Flattered by United Link

I've been doing some work for my neighbour recently, he's fairly good friends with a well known ex player whose house I'll be working on in a week or two (not saying who). Basically what I've been told is that Man U offered £6m at first and then £12m, cheeky bastards! The board are holding out for £15m.

I'm not making this up by the way. It's just what I've been told.

*awaits tirade of abuse*

that contrasts with the done deal rumour though, and i doubt the board would sell for £15m, see £24m for Lescott, who was desperate to leave.

This one is my biggest fear.

Would hate to lose Baines.

But, if United are going to spend this summer, why a left back?
They have a decent one, whereas they have a need or a right back nearly as big as ours.

I just don't get United needing him.

nor do I.

I wouldn't compare this to lescott deal mate. Different times.
I think sir. WhiskeyNose ain't paying more than £15m...

As long as it's rumours it's all hypothetical, but:

£15m isn't enough unless we're spending all of it. FFS. I could handle 18-20 but £15m is an overall loss. I suppose two of these 3 players would be Donovan and Pienaar too? FFS. Keeping Felli would be everything in this situation. Lose him and we can expect another disappointing fee and that'd be it for us. Hoping that, at the very least, the fee will be higher than that.

Plus, I reckon if we did sell one of the above two, we would keep Rodwell. Which, tbh, would piss me right off. Surely as long as we have other saleable assets worth enough money to keep us afloat in Rodwell, Anichebe and Yobo, we could have at least some resistance to deals like this. I mean, Baines is hardly going to push this one through himself is he?

Baines is one of our best players so selling him is a big risk, however if we got say £20m for him then bought pienaar and someone else plus a replacement would that be such bad business? I'm not saying there is anyone who can simply 'replace' bainsey but when he first came to us he wasn't anywhere as good as he is now, we all know the magic moysey can do with players....

I told you all the fee if he goes will be lucky to be more than £15 million.

Its how much he's worth to other clubs that decide the fee, not what he's worth to us.

And factor in the board we have, then unless we are dealing with some club with money to burn a realistic price is around £15 million.

Like it or fume, its up to you.

If he goes, Fabian Johnson of Hoffenheim I believe, would be a good replacment, add Donovan and Pienaar to it and we'd be ok. But this is the only type of scenario where I wouldn't be totally devastated by Baines departure.
