Should be a barrel of laughs when they rename Newport, Bridgend, Blackwood, Swansea and Cardigan (Pullover)……
Erm, they all have Welsh names and have done so, long before the monoglots arrived.

Casnewydd, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr, Coed Duon, Abertawe ac Aberteifi.

As with many anglicised / bastardised Welsh place names, it is frequently the case that the English ruling class’ inability to correctly pronounce their names, resulted in the changes from original Welsh.

Caerdydd then became Cardiff, Ceredigion became Cardigan and Poptyping became microwave.

I never understand why they have English name anyway, well i guess its to attract tourists, I've spend a lot of time in Blaenau Ffestiniog that hasnt got an English name as far as i know, same Bala, Betws y Coed.

Anglesey need to do the same Ynys Môn from now on
They were told that speaking Welsh was backwards. Children were subject to physical punishment if caught speaking Welsh in school. In essence there was an attempt over decades to wipe out the language. Welsh history was not taught in schools. I suspect that more people in England can say a few phrases in French or Spanish than something in Welsh. United Kingdom apparently.
