Thinking about striker debate today I had a play around on Youtube and managed to find some videos of Gabriel Batistuta. I remember watching the likes of him, Vialli and van Basten every weekend when Italian football was on Channel 4 and Serie A was far and away the best league in the world. Have a look at this clip that shows 100 of his goals.

Pretty much every type of goal imaginable in there. He was an amazing player, even more so because he spent pretty much his entire career at relatively unfashionable Fiorentina. Oh for a player like that on our books.
 
yeah defo a great player. and he turned fergie down a few times too!!!:lol:

he scored some great goals against the so called best defensive teams in the world at that time.

Yeah, I remember when Serie A was THE top league.

What do you think happened to see it slide as it has?

I still see people debate that it's the top league in the world but I think they're still living in the 80's and 90's. For me, England and Spain have been tops for years now.
 
the media happened, globalisation happened, suddenly a goal less draw wasnt palatable.

with the globalisation of the game came the pressure for winners.

the nature of the commercial beast has been esxposed, but no one in the money is prepared to give up their position of wealth.

its sickening, its not football, its not right.

roll on 12am kick offs for the audiences in some arse hole of the universe to enjoy.

Well that's the problem I have with the G14 or however many there are now.

They don't represent football interests as a whole. Just their own. That's gonna be a bigger problem down the road for all involved.
