Beer, revisited

White Shield got ruined when Worthingtons got taken over by Coors a few years back.

The pre Coors bottles are one of the best bottled ales you`ll ever taste and are highly sought after as a result.

It was one of the only beers that I can think of that had sediment in the bottom like home brew !
You won't find many of them in good shape, was nearly 20 years ago!
When your choices in a supermarket are the likes of Doom Bar, Tribute and the like its still a good shout I reckon, its as good as Landlord in a bottle.

The likes of Sainsbury's, ASDA and the Co-Op have a fairly good selection these days, so you don't have to go down drinking that tripe.

Co-Op don't actually have a wide range, but I like their emphasis on ensuring that they have a selection of local ales that seem to rotate to some extent.

Quite a few of the local deli`s have started selling local stuff too.

Not cheap though - 3.50 / 4.00 a bottle.

Yeah I agree, although our local is a bit crap to be honest, just saying it can hold its own among those bog standard trad brown bottle beers. Some of Sainsburys own range is perfectly fine.

Aldi do some half decent stuff too, you just have to wade through the nasty stuff first to find it.

They do a really German lager ( can`t remember it`s name ), but it ticks all the German purity laws that they apply to their own beers.

Full report please ;)
Very nice and a good selection of ale on available. I had two pints of White Rat, which were both very nice, but there was another five or so casks on.

There’s obviously the draught selection too, which included two from the Neptune brewery. I didn’t have food, but what I saw looked very nice.

In terms of delis, Delifonseca does a really nice selection but they're expensive like you say; the co-op do two for £5 which isn’t bad at all.

The Cheese Shop in Woolton sells bottles now too - from memory I think it`s Brimstage stuff and Spitting Feathers.

I take it from the beer range in the Fly, that Okells are nothing to do with it anymore ?

Brimstage and a few other things - I’ve seen Tatton there in the past. In terms of Okells, to the best of my knowledge it’s still owned by the company.

Why it’s not on permanently is a good question. It wasn’t on today or at least I didn’t see it on the board, but it was before the lockdown.

After raggin' on Tribute and the like the other day, this is actually a rather tasty collision of hop and malt, very similar to black lagers from central Europe.
@COYBL25 Might be one for you mate

Think I saw it on draught when I was in Cornwall mate, but it was too hot to drink a dark one like that.

Will look out for it in the supermarket though ;)
