Beer, revisited

Well, after seeing some of the sky high ABV's I'm bringing the thread down with a bump having just enjoyed Peroni Red the other night. A decent 4.7% and pretty decent as well, despite the Red part. Found in Majestic wine's. They also have a great range of the German beers that are North of 5%.

They do one call Paulaner which is German and 4.9 I think. Very nice indeed. Costco also had it recently on offer too.

A good beer and testament to the purity laws as the next day it doesn't ruin your head as much as weaker ales from over here.

@Bluesaint admittedly I'm not the biggest lager drinker, but I agree that Peroni Red is a very clean, drinkable lager. Their typical stuff is dire.

I'm going to go back there one day on holiday purely for the booze.
A bit late but only just reading this. I have some experience with buying Westvleteren XII. It may be useful. I still have some of these in basement. Will drink them this Christmastime.

The online sale system is only available in Belgium. Don't bother.
Easiest way to get it, is to go into the bar across the street. There you can buy nice looking six-packs with the official glass. Price per bottle is about 3.8 quid.

Of course, you could just drink the widely available St Bernardus Abt 12, identical recipe different yeast.
The brewery has an excellent bar by the way, just 5 miles from West Vleteren. It's not far from Ypres. Hotspot for cycling fanatics in spring

By the way: don't keep these quadruples in the fridge, but in the basement. Let them warm a bit before drinking to get the full aroma.
They age beautifully. Keeping them in your basement for 2-3-4 years makes them even more worthwhile.
