Impressive start.

I thought he was brilliant yesterday. A big big plus

In what was a chaotic derby, what has been lost a bit was Coleman was really struggling down our right. A lot of this is down to James in front of him, and also Robertson/Mane being very good players. I'm not sure Doucoure or Allan played particularly well in covering. However Coleman was struggling. The word "rampant" would not be unfair to describe that first 20 minutes down our right.

He came on,a nd really shut most of that down. While we kept 11 on the pitch, it was hard to see Mane really having the same influence the game. He should have been sent off for kicking out, which was a reflection of how the game had gone for him. Godfrey deserves enormous credit.

His run in that first half was brilliant as well and in many ways a turning point. We broke the press and suddenly the whole team moved forward 5 yards, and they seemed to acceptthey couldn't press quite as high. I'm not saying it swing the game in our favour, but it went from looking like it could be a rout, to a competitive game.

He made a couple of brilliant block as well. If Coleman is out for a couple of weeks, as he may be, then I'd have n trouble with this lad coming in.

To have gone into such a high profile game, and acquit yourself so well shows a lot of character.

...i’m really nervous about Ings against Keane & Mina. He demonstrated recently at Goodison how he makes really clever runs behind the CBs. I understand Kenny is available for next week, I’d be very tempted to play Godfrey at CB in place of Mina.

Kenny will struggle massively without any cover in front of him imo which James doesn't provide.

I also like the fact with Keane, Mina, Doucoure and DCL we have 4 big threats from set pieces but also big bodies to try clear balls into our box in which Saints have 1-2 big lads.

If Holgate was fit I would have dropped Mina but with Richarlison out we could still do with having that big aerial threat from set pieces.

I think we can acknowledge that Mina and Keane are not best suited against small/nimble strikers. I actually thought Firmino presented them with real problems yesterday. Strangely the week before against Maupay and Connolly who are a similar style, they dealt with it well.

Firmino moved them about well, and didn't get into physical battles with either, which was cute play.

Either way I think we would all acknowledge that medium term Holgate/Godfrey are likely to come in alongside one of Keane/Mina. Whether Ancelotti tinkers next week, given we are playing against a front 2 and just asks Godfrey to "tuck in" will also be interesting and another alternative. I'm not sure we will want to rush Kenny back.

Godfrey at right back as well. Richarlinson is also very good in the air, and sides struggle to cope with us. It's a shame he's got himself suspended.

Got a feeling this lad will leapfrog Holgate in the pecking order based on not much but a feeling in my gut. Holgate's progressing well but he seems to have gone up a few notches just because he can run and pass a ball which we struggled to do last season. Anyway going forward I'm thinking Keane/Mina will partner Godfrey/Holgate, to compliment each other.

Plus Branthwaite can learn his trade comfortably now.

forgot about branthwaite, jesus we have a lot of injuries in defence. We need a clean sheet v soton, if we keep conceding it'll be a downfall this season, although i do still believe we've defended well this season, it does mainly come down to the keeper.

He's an awkward looking footballer and not very easy on the eye but very rarely has a bad game and never goes hiding. He stays in the team for me.
Yeah Keane and Mina's places to lose at the minute. Whether or not Ancelotti wants a pair who compliments each other more is probably what will decide who plays but on current form, our two CBs are doing fine.

Can't just drop Mina...he's done absolutely nothing wrong. He's just as much a part of this good start than anyone else,People are to quick to want him out team for no reason.

...I doubt Ancelotti will break up Keane/Mina next weekend but we bring players in to improve the team. Ancelotti clearly wants pace and athleticism in central defence, so I expect Godfrey or Holgate to come in because Ancelotti will feel it’s an improvement.
