Left back suits him more than right back, i know that shouldn't make sense but it does. Not expected to get on the ball as much, many times he is just bypassed to be honest, he automatically tucks into centre back when other teams attacking, and the new fad of playing left footers on the opposite wing has worked in his favour too, Neto kept going onto Godfreys stong side.

Digne will sooner or later reclaim the Lb position, but Godfrey has been a huge addition. Has he even started a game as Cb yet?? His position of choice, great experience gained.
This is a bad thing for our ability to be an attacking threat.

Ancelotti had Lilian Thuram at Parma didnt he?

Similar kind of setup we have with Godfrey on the left...

Id be chuffed with a Thuram clone (another Godfrey) on the right.

I would also like us to even dream of signing a player like Thuram.

With the greatest of respect to Godfrey, I really do not see how they are even in the same post.

Both well built and rapid
Both centre backs playing as full backs
Similar styles of play

I seem to remember Thuram being a centreback at Parma though. It was only with France that he played as a fullback.

You may well be right on parma, its so far back i can hardly remember, though i remember him at both RB and CB for juventus.

Some of those players in italy back then would walk into a world eleven these days with ease.

As was Pat Van Den Hauwe
Zambrotta too. There's a strong argument that with most wide attackers these days cutting in rather than trying to get to the byline, having a right footed left back is better defensively. The challenge is that so many full-backs these days are also a main part of their teams attack.

So maybe we'll mix and match, with Godfrey playing in games where we can expect to do more defending and Digne when we're going to be on the front foot more.

I wonder if he'll play CB or LB vs Wednesday?

Digne's rested so it looks to be LB unless Nkounkou gets a start...

Eager to see him at CB though :)

I remember being surprised we'd signed another defender when we got him, but we'd have been sunk without him this season. he's been really excellent, dont like all the interviews though, he's got a big mouth which never bodes well,
