i remember at the end of his career
He was only half the player then. At his peak he was a real speedster and won 51 England caps over a year period. Never won a cap after he was 28.

He reminds me of him defensively, being quick and aggressive with excellent recovery. An excellent defender who worked well alongside somebody more aerially dominant. He wasn't a footballer though and gave you nothing offensively. I think Godfrey certainly has the edge there.

Godfrey is still only 23 though so will hopefully get even better.

I try not to judge players on how they played for other clubs, mainly cos I never watched them for other clubs.

I mean I honestly hadn't even heard of Godfrey till we signed him.
OK I'm going to do it.

We played three games last week and they were Holgate and Godfrey being overwhelmed as a partnership by Fulham to the point that we had to sub in a CB to help them, City overrunning us (which there is no shame in, but it happened) and giving both of them issues and then the RS where Godfrey was involved in allowing their 3 best chances.

So while I get the euphoria of winning the derby, I was buzzing for about 48 hours myself, I also don't understand fully understand the talk in this thread apart from the fact that his passion is admirable. I love the intensity he brings as much as anyone. The tackle at the edge of the box had me off my seat.

THEY wont like that, THEY already have him on the plane to The Euros and winning ballon next year.

But I cry every time somebody says "Godfrey and Holgate are our best CBs".

After this last week I have more questions than answers about Godfrey.

Holgate I think the answer for me is he doesn't have enough to be more than a rotation option. You can't be average in the air and bad on the ball and poor at stopping dribblers in a 1v1. Too many issues.

Big fan of MK and everything, but I do wonder if he will still be launching mad long balls and confidently stepping out when a load of tense dars are bricking themselves in the seats behind him again. I hope so, but its still a bit of a concern foe me.

That sub against Fulham was an attacking one and I won't be convinced otherwise.

Carlo makes players 12 foot tall.

Of course there's a danger the old Keane could return.
