2020/21 Ben Godfrey

He makes some good stops and then he just randomly throws the ball in the net.

I don't hate him as much as most do like, that Derby goal will mean people never forgive.

All Keepers make mistakes, apart from Jan Oblak, a few you can forgive, but it happens more than is normal really.

As I say, small glimmer of hope left, but I suspect a GK is certainly on Brands shopping list next Summer.

It was more the Newcastle game that got me. At home, 1800 Geordies got to him and he played to their crowd instead of being professional. Needs to grow up

Who's to say that he won't turn out better than Gabriel. He played in a higher standard league than Gabriel did last season and I must say he didn't look great when they scraped a home win against the Hammers 2 weeks ago. Should have had a penalty given against him and looked decidedly dodgy in the air against Antonio on numerous occasions.

Antonio is a naughty player tho, he’ll kill a lot of CBS this year in the 9

Full quotes from Farke in his presser today about Godfrey -

“I can’t confirm a deal is done yet. What I can confirm is that Ben has trained the whole week with us and was in our plans for Derby. He trained on Thursday but then during the evening there was some progress on the work in the background and what I can confirm is Ben did not train today.

“He is in advanced, or more than advanced talks, with his agent and a club. If I have to judge it right now it is pretty likely the deal is done in the next hours or days. If not, I would be happy because I have the best centre back in the division. If not, then I cannot confirm sums but it will be a club record transfer fee for Norwich City.

“He won’t be with us for the Derby game. I can confirm that. Whoever signs Ben Godfrey can be unbelievably happy. It is no coincidence he is captain of the England Under-21s. This club has had some decent players in the best so to be rated the biggest transfer fee for a figure that is on the world level says everything about his potential.

“He had a lot of competition on the centre back positions but for me he played the most minutes of any centre back here. It says a lot about his development. I don’t need to speak about his strengths or where he can improve. I am pretty sure he will play for best clubs in the world one day and he has the potential to captain England. That is what I wish for him.

“He is one of the best centre backs in the world in terms of potential. I was happy to be able to work with him. I would like to work further on with him.

“It is always a compliment when the biggest clubs in this country look at our players. We should feel proud and it shows we have definitely done something right.”

This yeah. Still haven't lost hope he can come good, but he desperately needs competition that pushes him to the very limits. It's all far too simple and relaxed for him now at the club. He's first choice and there isn't really any serious danger of that changing.

Pickford has the capacity to be a great keeper....he wouldn’t be playing the in Prem and be England’s number one if that wasn’t the case. It’s clear to me that he hasn’t progressed or developed at the rate you’d expect. I think it’s in part related to the regular change in managers we had on the basis that goalkeeping coach is a very specialist role and every time a manager changes so does the coach. That can’t be beneficial for any player especially one who needs developing. He needs to find consistency and he needs a consistent mentor.
Just saying like
