Lampard on Godfrey & Mina absences "With Ben, we're thinking 2-3 months. That's a really quick assessment so don't quote me too heavily on that. Yerry, we don't have an idea. We're assessing that this evening

The officials are there to protect the product of the Premier League.

They should be there to protect the players.

Clearly not though and its cost a young lad. Shame on them.

In Shakespearean terms this was a comedy of errors beginning with a hapless and terrible backpass by rugby player Ben Godfrey then pickford inexplicably trying to keep the ball in play when the ball had clearly gone out for a corner and kicking it straight to the Chelsea attacker and then the unfortunate injury which could have been prevented had the linesman done his job

Hopefully the lad recovers well never nice seeing an injury like that.

Injury aside though he's an abysmal CB and represents the Marcel Brands era for me - £20+ million average signings.
He was not a Brands signing mate, Brands only wanted to loan Godfrey but the board went ahead and just paid a fee for him. It's the transfer that represents that era of poor recruitment in terms of how there was no actual direction/plan rather than any individual imo.

Hopefully Thelwell has a bit more of a long term strategy and can sort out our scouting.

As for Godfrey, well I wish him well and a quick recovery but it was a daft challenge to go in at that speed.

Firstly, I hope he is ok and recovers quickly. However - his own lapse in concentration and his erratic diving in from miles away has caused him his injury. I get that people will blame the officials but in my opinion, it is all on Godfrey and not the linesman. The speed at which the ball goes back to Pickford would make it impossible for the linesman to be in line.

Fact is it was an awful backpass, Pickford's decision to keep it in and it going to a Chelsea player and then Godfrey lunging from miles away have led to him now being injured long term. On the plus, as much as I'm not a fan, thought Holgate played well when replacing him.
