Look if we had went out with the money we used to sell Lookman and actually made a half decent and somewhat entertaining team then sure I'd be ok with our "business."

That's not what happened. We were dreadful to watch aside from a 3 week spell under Carlo. I haven't missed us at all the last 3 weeks. So for me the business is bad, because we once again suck to watch.

Silva picking Bernard over Lookman every week was the kind of play it safe no balls decision making that got him sacked and has kept us where we are for thirty years. I agree Lookman wasn't consistent enough but he also didn't play consistently enough to ever be consistent if you follow that. It is what it is at this point but we really need to treat our young talents better. If football resumes with the table as it is Anthony Gordon should be starting games because Iwobi and Bernard aren't it. But he won't and the cycle will start over.

Did we look good with Lookman on the pitch? No, so getting money for nothing is a good deal. Simple really.
 
I found him more enjoyable to watch than every player we've had since I started following the team aside from Mirallas, Richarlison, Rom, Deulofeu and maybe that one season when Fellaini was our top scorer. DCL is getting close. But as attackers go we aren't spoiled for choice.

Now go ahead and tell me how if I don't like Bernard's stepovers 30 yards from goal I don't enjoy football.

In Isolation, the Rom sale was a brilliant deal, we got a massive pay day and he never wanted to stay with us.

The fact that we re-invested the money badly sours things, but you can’t keep every player on the books indefinitely - they come and go, and when they go you try to get a good price. That’s what makes it a good deal.

Would've rather we just let the deal run had him go on a free. Two more years with him up top could have been huge for us.

What about Lookman did you “enjoy” watching? Absolutely bizarre statement.

If Rom scoring goals got us two more years of being in Europe would we have been better off? Clearly yes.

Would it have been more fun to watch than having a season where Sam Allardyce manages us? God yes.

As a fan I just don't care about profit unless it is going into making the team better, and since we don't ever do that I just don't care about profit.

I'd have said the same thing at the time. But now I'm not sure it is. Like if Richarlison had two years left this summer and wasn't signing on for more I really genuinely would prefer we just rode it out and let him walk. We have so much trouble finding good players that selling any of the ones we have always sets us back farther.

But if we don’t sell those players when the big offers come in, it sets us back massively.

Its not just the immediate reinvestment, there are all sorts of financial considerations - FFP, balancing the books, meeting overheads.

Historically, we’ve relied on the sales of Rooney, Arteta, Pienarr, Lescott, Rom, Stones, etc, to keep us going - that’s where we are as a club.

I like the sentiment of keeping our best players but there is a good reason clubs have to sell when the big offers come in and the player wants to walk.
