I think you’re right, squad player but not as one of highest earners - Carlo doesn’t fancy him, reluctant to use him so there’s really no point him staying here. Someone in another thread pointed out Roma apparently bid for him towards the end of the window - wonder why we didn’t just sell.

I think we knocked the bid back because they only offered something like £6m.

We got him for free, he’s 28, is on circa £100-120k a week - it’s not great but if Carlo’s not going to play him even when we’re missing usual starters then it’s better than nothing. Values not going to go up sitting on our bench or in the stands all season.

Wouldn't surprise me if something isn't already in place for him to go in January mate.

I liked him I must say but has lost his way. I think he's a bit of a confidence player and probably needs to feel a lot of love. Shame, he should be decent back up when we need him now but just not at it.

Thats why this job is and still is no quick fix. We will slowly get rid. But it will be slow and the best case scenario is another window. 2 or 3 in. And a few of them out.
Some amazing comments in here tonight. We are currently sitting 2nd in the table in what i class as another year of trying to undo some awful recruitment.
Its not happening overnight.

People like to say he's a useful squad player, but what use is he actually bringing? He keeps the ball well at times but he isn't good enough defensively to say he's a player we can bring on to see games out. He isn't creating enough to be useful chasing games. He isn't getting us goals enough to be useful that way. Just trying to figure it out.

I get it, everyone liked him year one because he smiled and ran a bit and once or twice beat a man but he has not been and is not now good enough for this team which with its best players healthy and playing can challenge Europe.
