My choices would be as follows: Not my own personal favourites but bands I believe had a major influence on music direction durng their era.

60's...The Beatles (obviously)
70's...Led Zeppelin
80's...Nirvana
90's...Pearl Jam
modern day....Im fecked really as most of the stuff out there is crap...I can't think of one band this decade thats been a major influence in musical direction.

I agree, total crap music all about shaking ya booty etc. annoys me to no end. All the video clips are the same too, some dark/latino women dancing around shaking their booty (n)
 
The last record I bought was on vinyl about 1988, probably last album about the same time, 'that's what I call music 12' or whenever it was, consisting of from memory, Pet Shop Boys, Curiosity killed the Cat, Tiffany, something like that, these artists were really big back in the day.

Today's music is total and utter sh1t, I'm being completely honest here, I cannot stand it, some cellphone ring is #1 probably, I mean what kind of music is that, even Crazy Frog was #1 when the red crap won the European Cup. :rant::toilet:

The least said, the better.
 
Lot of shouts for Floyd, here's another great vid...Mason loses one of his chopsticks there at the end but makes a nice recovery.

Yeah it's all about TV power now with the rise of X-Factor/Popstars etc.
The last truely great bands the UK were Radiohead and The Verve imho, and they were formed in the early 90's and were at the peak of their powers in the mid/late 90's. Since then it's been junk TV-friendly acts year after year.

Jesus wept when everyone proclaimed the Artic Monkeys as the next coming. Shows you how low we've sunk.
