little curly alan ball

Player Valuation: £70m
Most of us were weaned on tales on our forebears' knees of legends of our great game . I imagine most will be similar , but let's see .

Mine ;
GrandDa - who saw Dixie many times - Duncan Edwards .

Me Da - more one-eyed than his Arl Fella - The Golden Vision / Bally .

arl fella says georgie best, no pause for thought, no other contenders.

grandads would probably have been Dixie, his 'arl fella as well.

mar says alex murphy, an if he'd played football he wouldve been ace at that as well

I'm so proud to sayI met Dixie , saw Dave Hickson play at Tranmere with Tommy Eggo, saw Stan Matthews play at Goodison for Stoke but my family always raved about Tom Finney, seen him in a car one day but I would have loved to have seen him live in a game guy was a genius(y)

I saw his first appearance at Goodison, just couldn't believe how good he was Reids, your old bloke is right(y)

There were a few priests who got season tickets gratis from both clubs. I knew a few lads who would think nothing of going to both games, I couldn't get my head round it

Loads did it . None of ours . like , but it was popular .

I saw Besty , and Charlton and Law play at Goodison .
Met Law-Man at Bally's Funeral .
When I told him me GrandDa' worshipped Duncan Edwards , he said to me , " How do you know about Duncan Edwards ??? You dont look old enough to have seen ME play !!! "
Also called me a Legend for coming 200 miles for Bally , and that me fambo would be proud .
No [Poor language removed] !!!
Top banana , the arl Law-Man . Player himself an' all .

My Granddad saw Dixie Dean and I can just remember him telling me about Dixie.

My Dad liked Tom Finney, George Best and Alan Ball.

My Wife met Dixie Dean when she used to work at the pools, said he was a proper gentleman.

i went quite a lot with a mate, he used to come with me. mainly the big games, but it had it's bonuses, i was there when champagne charlie ruined rushies day at wembley, and so went a record of never having lost when he had scored.

there wasnt as much live footy then so if you wanted to see a big game you had to go along, with living where i do i also saw quite a few Bolton games and wigan (never the mancs though) as a footy mad kid, if your mates dad asked if you wanted to go along then you usually would. i caught a little kopite that i know in the g.s. for the malaga game, says he'll go and watch any game if asked.

i used to find that i could watch rugby no matter who was playing, i find it difficult to watch other games these days though unless there is some baiting to be had from it. e.g. chelsea v ushoited i wasnt arshed about seeing, shoite v brum compulsive viewing.

I think you're talking great grandad if you're going back to Dixie. T.G. Jones - the Welsh Kaiser - was the toast of the grandad generation by all accounts. Peerless footballing centre back.

Me Nan's Fav . - Me Nan had a season ticket for 30 years plus - .
All Arl Arses agree though .
Me Nan also said if not for the War , Tommy Lawton would now be Dixie .

My Grandad went to the same school as Dixie, Dixie was a few years ahead of him, he used to tell me he was nothing special back then. He never really had much interest in football tho.
