I had that one before the end, but the artistry of the way Singer conducts the reveal is magic. That one was an immediate 'rewind the VHS and see the clues I missed'.

With respect to things I didn't see coming: Shutter Island. The last ten minutes are killer. Kingsley keeps us guessing, and then that last scene.

I know we are talking about ending here, but I never understand the love for the Shining. Having read the book, I’m in complete agreement with Stephen King that the movie is just nowhere near as good. In the book, Jack Nicholson’s character is written sympathetically - he’s a guy struggling to hold his family together and turns to the drink so he’s already in the slippery slope, which makes him susceptible to losing it, but in the movie he’s an ars3hole from the outset. Quite bemused as to why the critics have come to like it.

Bit dour for me that; it's crying out for a few laughs. When the rat jumps on his face always cracks me up but it just needs more. As a buddy movie it doesn't hold its own against the likes of Anchorman or The Hangover.
