Maybe he wouldn't have joined a month ago? He was linked with big Italian clubs like Napoli and Inter as options for them so maybe player and agent were keeping options open. Also we were never going to be able to pay the release in a oner. So maybe now is the only point where player and club have started considering our advances.

Maybe, but I think it’s all the more likely that we are just miserly and tried to cheese it until it was absolutely necessary.
