2024/25 Beto

He really wasn’t that tight and Beto took 2-3 touches. All he had to do is make a simple 15 yard pass to Garner and we’re out of our end. Beto sucks.

The CBs are supposed to be wide. That’s the tactic.
He did,but it's because he has the turning circle off double decker bus. Pickford playing it over the centre back might have been the better choice. I mean, they have played together for a season.

Moyes blaming Beto for the goal. “He has to retain it…”
he’s not wrong like, you would hope a footballer could control the ball, but it was a pretty dreadful ball out from Pickford and there was acres of space through the middle.
There’s a few who should have done better and singling out Beto smacks of favouritism towards the centre half’s and keeper.

I dunno where Beto fits into a Moyes team tbh. Hes been lucky a few times already with losing possession in our half before this. Can get away with it if he’s scoring or creating but he hasn’t been.

Moyes would have to change the way he sets a team up to accommodate him. Which is definitely not happening. He’d rather an 8 goal a season striker who can keep possession.

A different manager/team could maybe get more out of him.
Don’t think he does without a fellani type at No 10, even then I’m not sure he wants a striker playing on the shoulder of the defence.

I know he will shoulder some blame for the goal but why not play to his strengths. He can't hold the ball up well but is a real threat playing on the shoulder of the centre back so play the ball over the top the one time we gave him space to run into with the ball at his feet and he gets a decent shot away.
Because it pretty obviously isn’t that simple. We could barely string enough passes together to get near the halfway line in the first half, how exactly were we going to be playing a load of through balls for him? Any striker for a team with the lack of ability we have is going to have to play with their back to goal a lot, it’s just how it is. I’ve said before, playing with a target man isn’t even necessarily tactical for us, it’s just how things end up panning out when you can’t get a proper foothold in the game.

I think this is a good point. Like people act like tactics are like a button on a computer game. They are a reflection of the balance of the game.

If you see the ball constantly bouncing back when it's played to the centre forwards feet then as a midfielder you should take responsibility and try something different, just look at Garner who was completely anonymous today.

Great scouting 🙄 or a just another in a long line of panic buys.
