2024/25 Beto

Worst centre forward with his back to goal I’ve ever seen play for us. I get the circumstances when he signed - no cash to pay up front, desperately trying to get someone in as dcl was perpetually injured but still an absolutely shocking signing if the £25m price tag is to be believed.

The one part of his game I’m told he’s good at, namely running onto the ball, we’ll he had a the chance last night and just got swatted aside by the defender when clean through.

We’d have been better buying a journeyman CF from the lower leagues who at least could have made the ball stick and allow the midfield to join.

Another transfer masterclass.

He was able to win and retain the ball under pressure and won us some frees.
A hard worker but really not much more than that.
I felt Ndiaye should have been playing close to him as I felt the Southampton defence would struggle if they were really pressured.
We just sat back all night and the game slipped away in the second half.

You cannot expect to win games with 26% possession.

He was poor but it was hard to play carrying round their centre half all night, the referee and the officials were appalling last night. I swear the linesman on my side, (paddock) hardly ever kept up with the play and imo guessed a couple of offsides, one against N'diaye he was on but the linesman was at least three yards behind and couldn't possibly see offside.

Was sat near the dug outs last night and was quite shocked after Southampton scored to hear Ian Woan scream, “Beto! Beto! That’s all on you!!” Not sure how that is leadership or helpful in any way.

After that, both Woan and Dyche were hammering him the whole game as a succession of hopeful/hopeless balls were launched in his vague direction and he unsurprisingly struggled to do anything with them. As they were clearly blaming him for everything, I wasn’t surprised they took him off, and even less surprised that Ndiaye struggled even more to do anything with the “passes” now launched up to him instead. Strangely, once McNeil had been moved into the ten role, I’m sure we might have seen the best of Beto - or at least finally played to his strengths - but by then of course he’d been dragged off.

It’s absolutely no surprise that his confidence is shot.

Professional level sport isn't beer and skittles mate, even more so at elite level.

Make a mistake, expect to be held to account for it. They're not high school kids, they're paid professionals, if they can't handle a the heat....

Edit. Apologies, all the above is in my opinion and not a go at you.

I was in the Main stand and saw Woan shouting and throwing his arms up in air,I wondered whether he had to much to say maybe he should sit down and let the manager give instructions.
Woan shouldn't even be in the technical area.

I saw this too, woan and dyche were berating him all half, no idea what they were telling him to do, dyche was making some sort of hand gesture like go forward sideways back? Beto looked like he wanted to chin them, don't know what he was meant to do spent the game chasing the ball like a dog with a tennis ball with their defenders playing it between themselves with no help from anyone else
