2024/25 Beto

Looks like he will start against Leicester unless we go with NDaiye up top. He has a good chance of scoring against them. My issue with him is apart from bumbling through them like a baby elephant he brings very little else to the team.

The team is better with DCL than Beto even though Beto will get a few goals, perhaps more than DCL
Ye if we weren't struggling team we could afford to play more a way to just expect Beto to be fed balls in the box.

Need a striker that can fonwhat dom does and slot. Easier said than done.

Let’s have it right he’s useless. He hasn’t a clue how to press, his movement is terrible and his touch is embarrassing. Add the worst number 10 ( doucoure) behind him and you have a car crash waiting to happen. Moyes wil change that asap
This is a huge thing that just gets ignored in all the ‘he just needs a run’ and ‘it’s not his fault we don’t play through balls for him’ posts. One of the basic skills we need from any striker is pressing and you’re right that the entire concept of it just seems totally alien to him.

He definitely needs to press better. You'll get no argument from me. I do remember under Carlo though that Dom was a but more lax off the ball and more focused on timing his runs. I don't want Beto just going headless chicken on us. He did get a great tackle on the keeper in their box so he is obviously looking to apply some pressure, but he needs to do it way more consistently

Oh it’s not effort he lacks, it’s just understanding. He runs after people but he doesn’t press properly, so he often takes himself out of the game and loses the teams defensive shape right from the get go.

Yeah I remember seeing him get triangled pretty hard when he picked the wrong guy to cover. He certainly needs to learn better positioning and maybe with more playing time and a coach that is (technically forced) to play him can work with him on that. Right now Beto has an xfactor because nobody has any data on him. The defender panicked because he was afraid of what he might do.

In the off-season, he has to improve dramatically on his balance. He is not the least bit agile, but he doesn't need to be if he can run in a straight line and stay on his feet he seems to have a strikers instinct as evidenced by some of his finishes, but his body doesn't cooperate. That will make or break him if he isn't transferred.

Just trundles around like he's lost when the opposition has the ball.

I think he probably works hard, but as you say, it's largely unproductive isn't it?

Even with the ball, how many times does he get into the channels to give us an out ball? Considering opponents are often pushing up high and getting tight to him because his touch is awful, he very well gets any through balls. Largely because his understanding and positioning are woeful.

I don't think any of it is down to effort, but he just has nothing close to a Premier League level of understanding of what to do.

Like I'd say a hard working player would be giving you an out ball regularly when youre under pressure. But he doesn't even do that
