2024/25 Beto

Godspeed Norberto. Not great, but not as bad as we’ve made him luck by seeing his height and thinking, ah, drill it towards his face. He’s a big man up top that doesn’t play like a big man up top.

On the plus side, the team that sold him to us spent less on his replacement, who is now probably one of the hottest and most sought after goalscorers on the planet. So with a spot of good fortune we will do the same.

Really? Who?

We have money psr just wont let us spend it.

A loan with a obligation would free us up to spend this window.

Frankly im still amazed how we are still boarder line with psr when we've spent nothing and sold again.
O'Brien and Ndiaye were bought for cash. we've topped up with harrison again, Mangala, Broja, and Lindstrom on loans. Who've I missed?

Brought in tim as well.

We brought in £50m worth of players but we sold over £70m. Also o'Brien would of been a relatively low down payment as well as ndiaye.

We probably only actually spent maybe £20m brought in £70 but are being told we were knacked by psr? I genuinely dont understand it.

Especially with the pay day loans (thanks bill) being paid off by TFG so that should be a massive monthly outgoings reduced

Consider the previous players bought on the drip, they needed paying for as time ticked on. Iroegbunam was a bit more nuanced, a swap here, a valuation there, the last of the Digne money?

Minds seem made up on Beto, same as with maupay, not gonna cut it, move on, take the hit and try again. At least it's not schneiderlin, tosun, walcott, williams.

Moyes was shrewd, rarely got left holding the entire loss, kroldrup, beattie, bilyaletdinov.

It’s well known we didn’t pay a penny for Beto up front, so we avoided the psr nonsense, so I have no idea how any sale will further complicate or help us

PSR calculations are different to the actual movement of funds.

If a player is sold then the entire fee is shown instantly for PSR. Then calculated as a +/- depending on their book value. Thats even if the actual money isnt paid for several years.

If a player is signed then the PSR calculation is spread across their contract e.g 5 years. Then any contract extensions further dilute the annual PSR cost -- even if the whole amount was paid upfront.

Seems like we may need to approach teams and offer them loans with obligations.

This means those teams cant replace players this window as they wont be receiving funds from us.

I wonder how much we can spend if Beto is sold at a breakeven amount.

Can't remember where I heard about it, but Moyes had a basic system using a series of whiteboards which he used to narrow down targets based on position, analyst feedback, meeting with them/their agents etc... Some would say "shrewd" some would say "dithering", as rumours that we also missed out on a few during his tenure. Not sure his methods work with the modern day Directors of Football - but agree it was good at the time for us.
