Bill Kenwright

He'll be absolutely devestated by it.

It's beautiful.
All he had to do was sell up when Moyes was our manager, to give him the funds to take us to the next level. If he did that his reputation would be salvaged.

He didn't sell the club though. He couldn't let go, and he'll now leave as a man hated and detested by generations of Blues.

The moral of the story is don't push your luck, and don't outstay your welcome. Bill Kenwright lacks that sort of self awareness and self humility though.

The day will come when Kenwright is gone. Hopefully the damage him and his cronies have caused to this club is reversible.

I hope that one day the whole financial dealings of that period are fully exposed. Maybe Wyness or Elstone will one day sing like canaries. He was a relative pauper when he joined the board. Took over the club mainly using other people's money, then got rid of those partners when they threatened his position, using Green's money/dodgy loans and selling off everything..... During which we had a sustained zero net spend for a decade, and had to sell to buy every year. When all around us were building new stands and whole new stadia and yet still outspending us on the pitch too. He somehow ended up the majority shareholder despite that value well exceeding his personal wealth previously. He should've been run out of town for the Kirkby debacle alone.... nevermind the endless littany of lies and catastrophic failures that followed. We're still suffering the fall-out from that self-serving dereliction of duty now.

Remember Birch coming in, a very experienced CEO, he lasted about two weeks, the full story of that one has never come out either. Suffice to say, he couldn't get away quickly enough and really didn't want to be a part of whatever was going on at the club.

I would love to know what happened with Birch, exactly the sort of experienced individual who could have helped build the much needed foundations of a modern sports business and he walked within a few weeks of taking the job. I think he came with a plan and probably saw that he wasn't going to be able to implement that plan (due to a certain individual) and so he thought "well it's pointless wasting my time here" and so he walked.

Totally agree with you Tom and yet for so long, what seemed like the majority of our fans believed his lies and defended him, incredulous when you think of it, think when the Kings Dock fell through and the never ending argument between him and Gregg ensued, it was then I turned against Kenwright and started to see through him for what he was and in my opinion it damaged the club. If Gregg would have won I feel things would be a lot different now, for the better.

It's amazing over the years now many NDA'S were signed involving Kenwright and his murky deals / sackings/ resignations.

From the limited anecdotes available it seemed he realised very quickly that there was zero intention that 'True Blue Holdings' would be seeking outside investment, which meant he had no possibility of carrying out his CEO remit to move the club forward. So he got out quickly before his reputation could be smeared. Can't say I blame him though it was disappointing news at the time.

From that point it was clear that the running of Everton was going to be a one man show. With the Birch episode following the KD fiasco it was abundantly clear that Kenwright was determined to hold onto power at all costs going forwards, irrespective of what it meant for the club.

That was the root of the dispute between him and Gregg too I think. Gregg wanted True Blue Holdings to be dissolved so that the club could attract outside investment and Kenwright refused. IIRC Gregg had people lined up willing to invest, such as Lord Grantchester among others.

I don't know anything about Gregg though. I was only in my early 20s when all that was going on and not paying detailed attention to what was going on at the time. I think I've read from other people that the likes of Gregg and Grantchester were far from perfect too, but I don't know anything about them.

I would just add that IIRC this feud led to Gregg selling up his shares. And I think it was his mate Robert Earl who bought them, and he subsequently did nothing for the club other than wheel out Sly Stallone at HT at one game at Goodison.
