Well I can't recall any other consortium either, so perhaps other longstanding fans could enlighten us. They couldn't have been that serious if they were outbid by a man with limited resources. I am not lionising Kenwright in any way, it has been our misfortune to have him as chairman in the long run, but we can't change history.
No you’re right we can’t change history but we can ensure the narrative around it is correct - this is an article from the Independant in 1999 which indicates other consortiums were interested. Not sure how viable they were, but there was interest - middle paragraph - it was his toy and he wanted it all to himself

I must confess I was not a reader of The Independent and there are no details of these rival consortia, but I am happy to concede the point.

Wasn't there a consortium involving Tighe, Abercrombie and Cannon all local blues but without big funds.

Yes, I do mean that he took action when no one else would. The Moores family heirs turned their back on the club, and I don't recall any of our other wealthy directors stepping up, or any interest from outside investors. So in that regard he kept the club afloat after Johnson bailed out. I didn't suggest it was brave in any way, but it was decisive action.
I think the Moores family would have got back on board if BK had agreed to dissolve TBH in 2004 and step down as chairman

Happy to be corrected on that if wrong but I’m pretty sure that is the case

I’m not sure mate, yes I think you are right in that Tighe and Cannon was in a consortium. I suspect they were in a rival one as they did not end up on the Board unlike Ambercrombie who I therefore assume must have been in BK’s consortium.

Would Shiekh Mansour have bought Man City had they not been gifted the Etihad ground or the Saudi's buying Newcastle if they were in a run down 35k ground and not SJP ?

BMD in itself isn't a game changer but for the elite type owner who wants a "name" PL club on his portfolio certainly is attracted to a 53k shiny new ground in a scenic location than a stadium situated in a run down area.

Even WHU - their revenues have jumped ahead of other teams because they are in their new gaff. Having BMD gives a sleeping giant like us a platform/profile to build off.
Obviously BMD has the potential to increase revenues a-la West Ham if the right people are in place to capitalize upon it (which we may or may not have), but I certainly don't see it as the game changer some people do. Spurs and West Ham have the 'London location' going for them too, so lets no understate that.

We've been a "sleeping giant" for 30+ years at very least, I don't see a shiny new building making an ounce of difference to that IF we are still a mess of a club, recruiting garbage players, trash managers, having zero plan from one minute to the next etc. Anyone who thinks BMD will be a magic fix is in for a shock methinks.
