I don't ever remember feeling like Everton were a small club under Johnson. Admittedly , we were absolutely crap in the 90s but we still felt like a big club. Its hard to describe, but as poor as we were, I'm not sure that was the start of the rot.

Under kenwright it felt different from day 1. Even in our "successful" Moyes years, it felt like plucky little Everton and we didn't really deserve to be at the top table.

Johnson simply ran out of money and friends pretty quickly, selling Ferguson behind Joe Royle's back was the last straw with blues fans.
But he never left us in a financial mess as Bill did and Moshiri will.

Total b.s . I was sat there and there wasn't an empty seat.
There was literally hundreds in the Upper Bullens, my view was blocked for the first fifteen minutes with fans coming in from the entrance close to my seat and that was repeated all round the ground. The ex chairman got a good send off from those in the ground as I sat quietly sitting down.

Very moving. Just felt so sorry for his daughter and Jenny Seagrove. They must be going through absolute hell at present.

Might not have agreed with everything Bill did but you can't deny he did what he thought was best for the club we all love.
What he thought was right for the club and what was actually right for the club are/were a million miles apart.

It was Walter Smith who was manager when Big Dunc was sold otherwise I agree with your points.

With hindsight screwing £8m out of the Geordies for the crock Ferguson was a great deal considering that was a massive amount of cash at the time.

Absolute hell? Old multi millionaire theatre boss dies in his mansion surrounded by loved ones. Tragedy. How about those dying in poverty and destitution around the world or those from missile attacks in Gaza right now? Absolute hell?

With respect to you, I disagree with that. If that was the case I don’t think he would of been a custodian for as long as he was or even half that has transpired here over the years would of happened.

In my opinion it reeked of self interest and ego for years and quite frankly I grew tired of it over a decade ago and ended up not going to matches anymore because I was gutted at what the club had turned into, it felt more like a close knit social club that looked after each other’s self interests with some kindness to others thrown in and anything remotely beyond that on the pitch such as finishing 8th or 6th was lauded as a huge bonus rather than a genuinely competitive football club first and foremost which is what in my opinion big clubs are supposed to be, it’s what makes them big and grows a support base.

This. He sold a dream based on him being a blue. Most believed it for far too long (me included). He was selfish and indulgent. Quite how anyone can boo and hiss one minute then clap and cry the next is beyond me. An old man dying isn't a tragedy. It's life.

Agreed. There was a PR machine e.g. the people’s club etc which was designed to manipulate and manage wider expectations of the club (not the supporters expectations) and in that sense it worked because when you have nobhead journalists touting us staying in the PL like some kind of miracle, and not looking at our general history of being successful, it has clearly worked to the outside world. It was all designed to keep him in power. I don’t like talking ill of the departed so will leave it at that.

Thought it was quite scary out there for a short while if I'm honest, couldn't move forward or backwards at times and I will say again how Everton didn't delay the kick off was astounding. Luckily fans kept their heads and remained calm.

It absolutely was….one of the most overrated players to almost achieve mythical legend status at the club. The guy was constantly injured and didn’t have the best disciplinary record when (e played, but because he kissed the badge, some fans seemed to love. You look at our peers (or at least they used to be) and their loved former players had consistently delivered, he hadn’t.

Very scary indeed. Having to walk from the Street End to Park End box office and back again through 1000s of fans crammed into the narrow streets was terrifying. Also unnecessary, as when we got to the Park End they then said it was sorted and to go back to the turnstile.
Thoughts of Hillsbrough did flit through my mind as we forced our way through.
