Wembleys nets a horrendous, way too deep. I prefer the box net to the hanging droopy one, but it cant be too deep and I agree it needs give to give a decent bulge effect.

My lad said, why don't all the clubs have nets with their club badges on them......I had no answer then .......but reading this I can now attempt to blind him with science.....well opinions....

I agree with you. Man City have the same nets, as does Paris' Parc des Princes.

I also agree that the old Wembley nets were great, and iconic looking. They changed them some time between the 1996 FA Cup Final and the first game of Euro 96, and of course kept those changes for the new Wembley. It would be great if they went back to those old nets.

Actually, I remember when you could tell which ground a game was being played at just by seeing the goals & nets, back in the 80's and 90's. With more and more (new) stadiums looking exactly the same, and using the same nets, this is harder to do. Hull's stadium looks just like Wolves and Bolton, for example, something you wouldn't have said back in 1990.

thats true about telling which ground the match was at just by looking at the goal net, or even the stand at the side or behind the goal.

remember chelseas old goal nets? you really could get a bus under those. they were massive!

Yeah, that is right. Also Stamford Bridge also had the biggest space behind the goals. There was almost room for another pitch behind them. Now, it's alot more enclosed.

Over a week later & I still can't understand how anyone would have their enjoyment of an Everton goal affected by what net the ball is hit into. I've never heard the noise of the net during an Everton match & I personally couldn't care less how it looks because as soon as it hits it I'm far too excited about the goal to be arsed about anything so trivial.

1 of the lads takes great pride in putting the pegs in just right when we have a game on the local park & it does add to the enjoyment of pinging in a 25 yarder but a Cahill header for Everton? I couldn't give less of a toss what net it hits

well it takes all sorts.

it's something i've noticed since i was knee high to a mars bar.
