How much difference is there really between the two sets of fans?

I know it's an age of acute Internet and media partisanship but when you study the behaviours we label of theirs and criticise them for, you see that there's more than a minority of ours with the same behaviours or approach.

I think there's a tangible difference. It's not an acute difference, but it's there.

There's a modesty about us that I don't want us to lose; a gallows humour that needs preserving.

Not because we're plucky or because we're underdogs or because we're living in anyone's shadow - balls to that mentality these days - but because we're a club that prides itself on community and a footballing family.

Goodison is one of the last remaining bastions to old-school football as I see it, and I don't want to lose that appreciation for where we have come from when we get excited about where we want to go.

Of course, it's football at the end of the day - a game that means a hell of a lot, to many of us. I would include myself in the bracket of being a tribal partisan fan from time to time, but it's mainly done without malice.
