Bob Latchford song or chant

Thomas to Latchford... absolutely glorious stuff.

Football was so much better then wasn't it.

I think us and Cov were 3rd and 4th going into that game. We absolutely demolished them, and I'm sure I remember the Latch missing some sitters, and still ended up with a hatrick. Great team that was. Probably a Peter Shilton away from a title winning team. (Koff Cloughie).

Blame Catterick for that, he could have signed Shilton for a 1/3rd of the price & chose an unknown David Lawson from a lower league side ... What could have been - Everton that moment sad to say - David Lawson was full of mistakes ....

It was George Wood in the later 70's. A good goalie, but always had a ricket in him. Rumour was Shilton was all but signed, until Clough gave him a bung.

….Steve has genuinely got a mobile phone contact list full of famous Evertonians.

In respect of players, you never hear a bad word spoken or posted about Bob Latchford, which says a lot about the player and the man.
My treasured Dixie Dean autobiography signed by the great man himself and a few select number nines,Dave Hickson,Alex Young........and big bad Bob!!!

We had the chance of Shilton when Catterick was Manager really cheap - Clough was not on the scene ATM - he decided to purchase a poor keeper well above the Shilton asking price & Lawson was a poor keeper & he cost us many an important game .... in fact when he was on the away bus they had a striker named Lawson - the rumour was it was him, Everton wanted to speak to, & the keeper we signed was gobsmacked when he heard it was him we wanted ..... it was a big fee too doh ....

The chant I remember of the Latch the most -

The signings we made to add to that team: Rioch, Todd, Ross, Kidd to kick on - all great players for their own top clubs but never did it at Everton.

We were fractions away from a very competitive team. The weight of Liverpool's success bore down heavily on us though. We just couldn't stand the pressure until HK came along and transformed it.

2nd v 3rd. Sorry.

Off topic but I remember That Coventry match as the signature game of the Gordon Lee team.

Similarly, The 4-1 v Sunderland in 84-85 would be a candidate for the signature game of the HK team (I know there's a lot of competition in this case).

One player played in both matches. The only clue is, he didn't play in blue
