Moyes was in charge of the 2004/05 season when we finished 4th. That's better than finishing 5th.

Comparing points tallies across seasons is pointless because opposition and the nature of leagues change every season.

By your reckoning, if a team finishes second on 100 points in one season, then finishes first on 91 points the following season, the 100 point season is better lol
2013/14

72 points
21 wins

Wow, we back onto this again.

He had a great season, we were brilliant to watch. Then it all fell apart, not sure what there is to debate there.

Fair play to him for getting the job.

I'm really surprised they didn't go for a Portuguese candidate, surely they would have options in that regard.

Martinez did a good job for Belgium, I don't think his spell there can be regarded as underwhelming.

Never got the shouts they could have won the WC, and you can't take away a 3rd place finish and a No.1 world ranking.

Its the last Euros they would have been most disappointed with I think.

He leaves himself open to Ronaldo asking what he's achieved in the game, but he can always exclude him from a squad. :)

Since we haven't really pushed on since we sacked him, I've often wondered if we did sack him too soon?

Could he of turned it around, I know that third season was grim but we havent exactly been that much better since, and it was the start of the revolving nanagers office door that has damaged us.

Also interested too see what he says about Onana
Arteta lost the support of Fam and Blud, but not the players. Bobby was in the middle of a full on player revolt. Even Pep would have a hard time surviving if the players rebelled against him.

Phenomenal post...

Yeah Baines had to take his job off him in the end - that's not something you see everyday, captain being appointed caretaker manager whilst the actual manager is still in post.

A proper downing of tools is really rare, despite all the talk every weekend of the players not trying etc. Manager has to have absolutely zero credibility or goodwill at their disposal for that to happen.

This guys ability to fail upwards is one of the most impressive things I've ever witnessed. He must be absolutely phenomenal in interviews.

I trace our current woes back to this BS merchant. That is the genesis of our chronic denigration of standards which has seen us fall from the top performing club outside of the top 6 in league performance the decade prior to midtable fodder and now to drain-circlers.

Bringing half of his Wigan squad and backroom staff, as well as signing absolute pony dross like McGeady, Cleverly and Niasse. The dire unwatchable tripe he served up and his refusal to acknowledge the concept of set-pieces. And of course, turning us from a team on the cusp of the Champions League places to a shambles who briefly flirted with relegation for two seasons before settling for putrid midtable finishes. Not to mention the clown led to us to not one but two 4-0 Anfield annihilations.

As long as Kenwright is here I will always be fearful that he will try and engineer the return of the man he once dubbed "what a manager". I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Portuguese FA for removing that option for the foreseeable.
