And a couple of late autumn insects in the garden today:

Spotted this flying toward the variegated laurel, and managed to see where it landed, so grabbed the camera a tripod and lined up a shot. Seems like there are very few flying insects of course now, though as I went to get this I did see a bluebottle on the wall of the house, but that buggered off quickly.

Then, I spotted this 7-spot ladybird tucked up tight against the stem of the rosebush in the garden, presumably on the lookout for a spot to spend the winter, though I suspect this is way to open, and is just a place where she paused as the day grew colder and the sun slipped behind the garden fence.

I like the colours from the stem, the insect, and the background, all seeming to compliment each other.

Not taken much of late, been busy and there is a lack of insects in late December in England!

Still alive though, is one of the spiders in my outhouse. This was at an awkward angle to get to, right up against the back corner, behind all kinds of typically stored stuff in the outhouse (trolleys, old cement bags and sand, plant pots and garden tools...) You can see the lacy/funnel structure of the spider's web - Tegenaria gigantica are more hunters than catchers (they wait for prey to enter the funnel rather than get caught on sticky strands) so their webs are less traps than domiciles...

I do not do landscapes (I do macro 98% of the time)...

Preston Marina this evening.

Had to Chase the Light, as it were... I was on my into the city centre when I thought there's a sunset over there might be worth a look.

Five minutes after this and the blues had all but gone a murky yucky hue and the sun was gone...

Hand held (tripod was at home)...
