Boss photos you've taken

Fangs for the memory?

Having said that, anything that might get in the fangs of this big bugger would have their memory erased rather quickly...

Tegenaria domestica...

Exif: f/10. ISO 200, 1/200sec.

Heading towards the fairfield summit in the lakes. (if you open image in new tab it shouldn't be upside down?)

This ladybird made a little journey into the dandelion clock - took a while to find it's way back afterwards...

Drain flies are supposed to be "rampant" from what I'm reading and hard to get rid of in an infestation.

Hardly surprising, because besides these two here, there must have been 50 more of them at it on the compost bin walls and lid!

From the garden today, a few flyers:

Blurred sawfly - I just wasn't quick enough to get a sharp shot it so fast:

Fly with spider mites parasitically attached:

A Mason Bee, Osmia rufa (probably)...

Either a cuckoo bumblebee or a red-tailed bumblebee - collecting, and then buggering off...

And finally the very smart "Tree bumblebee" (Bombus hypnorum), which is quite a small bumble, but none the less, a welcome flyer in anyone's garden. Queens, workers and males all have a black head, brown-ginger thorax, black abdomen with a white tail. The proportion of white on the tail does vary significantly but is always present. This species was first found in the UK in 2001, but is now found throughout most of England and Wales.

Flies even eat flies. This cannibal has feasted on one of his own kind...

Paul your macro shots of the insects are amazing, blown away with them. I did start trying to do some with the same 100mm lense on my 7D but the results were awful at first and average at best. I was ok (ish) at doing dull stuff on a tripod..etc but insects i gave up on. Your doing these hand held right? Are you using that Marumi Ringflash on the majority of them?

Ever been Bidston Moss? I was there a while back and bumped into someone who had gone there looking for a certain fly or something that was hanging about.

Never been there m8 - too far from Preston to travel out.

I used to use a ringflash, but just recently I have a normal flashgun inside a softbox which helps to spread and diffuse the flash.

95% of the time I use a tripod, and that requires 100% patience cos you have to move the whole damned kit and caboodle!
