Boss photos you've taken

Got slightly into photography lately and I'm looking for an entry/mid-level DSLR to get as my first. From what I've found so far, Nikon D5500 looks like the best option for the budget I have (~700e). Has anyone got it? Any other recommendations?

Also, as I plan on mainly doing landscapes, portraits and objects, what lens should I get? Go with kit lens (18-55mm) as a cheaper option or get something like 18-140mm? Budget is limited so I'm trying to get a versatile one that's hopefully gonna fulfill my (beginner) needs.

The best lens I ever bough was my 50mm fixed. I hated my kit lens and 18-400. so much frame curve it was crazy.

Get a low mid range body and get some decent lenses

All the pics I have posted on here where all taken with the D3000 & most of them with the kit lens!
Is it 18-55mm? I'm leaning towards it since it's a good-for-learning first lens or in reality - it's the cheapest and does a solid job. It's just for a hobby after all.

I think I'll stick with standard zooms (18-55 ; 18-140) 'till I learn more about it and what I really need.

agreed...summer of 2009 with a battered old 1D Mark 1 and a manual fifty (OM Zuiko f1.4) was a revelation...learnt so much and was hugely inspired.

nowadays use the Canon 1.4/50 USM for the autofocus option, can be had for about 200 if you keep an eye out on ebay and the like. brilliant lens.

just got a new (used market) camera today, the 5DIII...i'm always a generation behind to keep costs down, was using the 5DII these last few years. the 5DIV is apparently excellent, but very expensive. Any 5D, even the Mark I, will take high-end images in the right hands. a 5DI full-frame plus the fifty and you're looking at around 500 quid for IQ that no APS-C camera will match...up to say ISO-800 anyway. tho' full-frame has specific disadvantages too: less lens choice, softer corner sharpness, less wider AF-coverage and thinner depth-of-field (which for some isn't ideal, tho' I love it).

Alright Darren.

why are the focus areas all over the shop? would look better if it was all sharp, the distances mean it's not physics-based (depth-of-field)...is it a photoshop effect?

Its focused on the bridge - took this on my phone. A little deep focus, a little vignetting, a little grain.
