Boxing

Lomachenko wins a world title in his 3rd fight, decent scrap against another talented fighter gary russell jnr

In sadder news a lad who boxes out of a gym on the wirral I know quite well, died at a show in Nottingham last night, after collapsing after his fight, horrible thing to happen, and goes to show what a serious business boxing is

Just won £270 on various bets during that Ricky Burns fight. The bookies weren't watching the same fight I was. They even had the other bloke at 9-2 going into the last round. Good Friday nights work...

Missed the fight ffs, noticed Burns got beat on a split after being knocked down after 20secs.

Anyone watch it can say whether he should have won or not and where do you think he'll go from here?

I watched a few rounds before sky went on the blink, his defence wasn't up to much, he seems to think if he stands against the ropes with his hands high he will be ok, he need to be using the ropes to spin clear. When he was committing to a punch/combination he was leaving himself wide open and was being countered easily with heavy overhand shots, from what I saw he couldn't seem to correct this so I am guessing it happened right through the fight.

I really like Ricky Burns and hope he steps back a little and has a couple of "easier" fights to work on stuff and gain a little confidence, then I would like to see him fight Anthony Crolla or Derry Mathews. although I think Crolla would have moved on by then to the world scene, but you never know as money talks.

He's been doing that a lot recently just covering up on the ropes, he never used to be like that. Maybe worried about his jaw.

He definitely needs a morale boost from somewhere. He has the right attitude but he seems to be at a crossroads now doesn't he. I like the lad as well hope he carries on and comes back stronger.

I noticed the high guard on the ropes in other recent fights too, even if you don't take serious punishment it doesn't look good with the judges who will only remember parts of the round when scoring it. Think about when you are watching a round of boxing, when discussing it straight after the bell you only really remember a couple of things lasting a few seconds out of three minutes.

He struggles against southpaws big time . He is still scared of damage to his jaw as well. Very tough lad though tbf.

Crawford v Gamboa tonight

Anyone going to the echo tonight, decent list of fighters on card, although not so sure how competitive the fights will be.

Really looking forward to Canelo Lara, reckon there could well be an upset in this one. Very good match up.
