Hoping for a double k.o, 2 absolute ballbags
Junior has been a master in this build up, he’s got the public on side by playing the victim in all of it. The video he posted yesterday of his weight cut has got people talking but that happens every single card in boxing. He won’t be the only one on the card who had to go to those measures in order to make weight. It’s shocking to the casual audience but he’s made this weight in his last few fights. He says how easy it is.This event has some hype to live up to. Neither are a patch on their respective old man, Benn snr would and did fight anyone, jnr doesn't appear to have anyone of note on his record. Eubank snr had a granite head, and faced some of the best of his time, jnr to be fair to him has tried to mix it with the big reputations around his division, but hasn't been stellar. Froch, Kessler, Calzaghe, he's lucky he's not knocking around with these boyo's.
Anyway, they're both comfortably under the weight limit for this mornings weigh in, I'd expect CE jnr to pile half a stone on today, I don't think Benn has the capacity to match him there, so will be at a significant disadvantage tonight. Does reach and weight win out over maybe a little extra speed?
Not sure where all the chatter about the bout being dangerous has come from, it's a boxing match up, getting punched in the head isn't a long term strategy for good health. Then again, neither is whisky and gin...
Its only hyped up because of their surnames not their boxing ability and the fact that they truly despise each other. This event has some hype to live up to. We were spoiled all those years ago, there were loads of good to better boxers, sky hadn't moved in so the regular punter could still access the boxing world, there's not enough bouts now, not enough domestic challengers, it's all 'vegas' and 'legacy'. To many influencers making posing in the gym and trying on make up a living. There were world titles on the line back in the bad old days, prime time talk show interviews, loads of build up. I think Eubank has played it very well by getting the public on side. He’s a good fighter, not a great boxer. When ever he’s faced someone who can box, he struggles. Benn is a strange one, he’s looked exciting, fought decent people at the end of there careers, but not really been tested and not fought in a while. It’s going to be interesting to see how explosive and powerful he’ll be off the juice and the extra weight.

All we got in the bad old days was a bit of waffle in the paper, some rubbish at the fight signing and weigh ins, and maybe an appearance on a question of sport. Sometimes fighters would be seen at events, the match or other fight nights, eloquent speakers maybe got a bit of pundit work.I dunno what it is lately but boxing feels really flat! I don’t know if it’s down to lack of characters or what but feels really strange. Every card that seems on, just doesn’t have any special feel to it anymore. Tonight’s card for example, apart from the main event, possibly Smith vs McKenna, nothing to get excited about. It feels like an American fight night lately. It’s a shame cos we’ve had some big fights in the last few years that people haven’t got behind. We’ve had the best fighting the best and if you ain’t a die hard, you wouldn’t know. Hopefully it changes soon and gets back on track but don’t think it will unless you get someone like an Anthony Joshua who is marketable coming through the ranks.
I don’t think the is a fighter out of the British fighters now with a drawable personality that fans will get invested in. You could argue Ben Whittaker but he just comes across as an utter bulb and got the ability but just doesn’t connect. All we got in the bad old days was a bit of waffle in the paper, some rubbish at the fight signing and weigh ins, and maybe an appearance on a question of sport. Now we're in a world where it's possible to track an athlete from the moment they wake to when they go to sleep. Every meal, every gym session, every chauffeur driven parade down the old kent road. There's no mystique, no romance, it's been managed beyond interest.
It needs the raucous atmosphere of the darts, get the pints flowing, get it boisterous.I don’t think the is a fighter out of the British fighters now with a drawable personality that fans will get invested in. Maybe it’s all them going to DAZN and it doesn’t get as much mainstream coverage anymore but it needs a big shake up. Those cards in Saudi haven’t really delivered either, crowds are flat, can make a great fight seem bland and boring.
It needs a massive shake up, especially in this country. Hopefully tonight can bring a bit of magic and excitement to the sport but don’t see it happening. Pretty sure they’ve struggled selling this event out. The was defo tickets available last week
I agree, a big fight atmosphere makes a fight better, atmosphere in the crowd makes it more exciting. A load of drunken fans does make it better. Sometimes fights in the crowd are more exciting than ones in the ring.It needs the raucous atmosphere of the darts, get the pints flowing, get it boisterous.
Personalities are being coached out of tbc...
What do you think of Moses Itauma? I know he hasn’t fought anyone good yet but undefeated as an amateur and now a pro and still only 20. From what I’ve seen of him he looks like the real deal (not comparing him to Evander). Seems like a nice kid as well.I don’t think the is a fighter out of the British fighters now with a drawable personality that fans will get invested in.
