mines a "weedy" 4.0 ltr.
i wanted blue but had to settle for green, i went on the jeep 4wd day a couple of years ago at trentham gardens, it was when it had pissed it down for about 6 weeks and was excellent. used 1 of their brand spankers though, went down a bumpy track on some gravel last week, was tempted to engage the quadradrive but after watching a demo at the open day i couldnt find 4 different surfaces at the same time for my wheels. i got it for the space inside tbh, sis-in-law had 1 and i knew they were well comfy, we still intend getting a caravan too although meant to get 1 soon after the jeep, also cos of the lpg, quentin wilson always talks them up in the paper and says that on lpg the economy isnt a prob.
it costs the same a mrs bogs little peugeot to tax
insurance not really an issue for a 40 y.o.
gas , costs £25 to fill at the moment, get about 170 miles. when it cost 38p a litre my calc gave a petrol eqivalent of about 45mpg.
on petrol on the motorway the computer says 40 mpg when at 70 on cruise control, again same if not better than peug.
so the gas guzzler tag doesnt really sit i dont reckon, bit of a myth.
oh, and the infinity gold stereo pack is earsplittin.

Excelllent post.

The clip where the boy is crushed against the girl against the wall is an Irish road safety campaign ad which we are not allowed to use in the UK because it's too gruesome.

Perhaps a bit of gruesome might remind people about the dangers out there.

The drink and drive advert is awful.

The lad just wants a pint ffs.

In defence of boy racers M'Lud, it has to be said that from the stats that we have for collisions along some of the roads where one is more likely to be involved in a crash 'Red Routes' as they are called, the people that are involved in collisions are more likely to be between 40 and 50 years of age and live within 3 miles of the collision site.
The perception that crashes are caused by youths driving razzed up Novas etc is inaccurate in those locations.
Whilst males between the ages of 17 and 24 are more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash and are therefore the highest risk group that we try to target, they are more likely to be involved in collisions as a result of inappropriate speed or driver error (often as 'single vehicle, loss of control' collisions), which sadly often have the tragic consequences of multiple fatalities of the occupants on board.

Scientists in the USA have concluded that the frontal lobe area of people under the age of 24-25 has not fully developed the part of the brain that understands the concept of risk and that it is more apparant in males than females. Hence the gung ho/ it could never happen to me attitude of individuals up to that sort of mid twenties age.

Put rudely, some young men drive with their willies not their brains.

and as we say in the trade.................
Testosterone is the only legal chemical weapon to have killed millions.!

Life without it though would be pretty boring, all the men would look like Torres and act like big jessies.!

well hey, if it can reach the pedals then why not put your feet up and show off.

So what causes the 40-50 year olds to have more accidents?

I wish we knew but we already know that you are more likely to be involved in a collision within 5 miles of your home. The two roads that have shown up these factors (40-50 year olds) have been the A41 and A540. If you happen to drive along these roads you will see the signage evidencing the number of collisions in an attempt to remind people that whilst many of us drive every day and it's second nature to us, the risks of familiarity and 'auto pilot mode' are always there with sometimes tragic consequences.

Without doubt, as we get older our reflexes are slower, eyesight is diminished and so on. The years of experience of driving often mean that we can think much further ahead and avoid potential collisions.
How often do you get that sixth sense that someone is going to do something stupid like pull out or not indicate? All that comes from experience and that thankfully compensates diminishing reflexes etc

In answer to your question though, we don't really know, which is why we still have far too many deaths and serious injuries on the roads.

Sad fact is that today, some 11 people will have died in England and Wales as a result of an RTC. Add to that the hundreds of serious, life changing injuries sustained by others and it's easy to see the enormity of the problem -
even sadder fact is that over 90% of those collisions are avoidable, in other words, caused by driver error, misjudgment or recklessness.

stay safe boys.

I don't know about any one else but some years ago I was getting drivers appearing from nowhere causing me to swerve and tailgating was also common then I was diagnosed as diabetic and once the medication worked every ones driving improved:lol::lol::lol:

I saw THIS CLIP just before I went to bed last night. While I consider myself to be an extremely safe driver, I took that extra bit of care as I drove to & from work today.

WARNING - That clip will make you sit back & think. Don't watch it if there are kids about

[Edit - Mods: I've just clicked the link & the clip is quite extreme from the start, remove it if you feel it's right to do so]

What an ad, thanks for putting it up, couldn'y finish watching it. Was painful to watch which is what it should be , to get it through peoples' skulls that they are driving a leathal weapon. Unfortunatley it won't have any impact on the boy racers, which this thread is about. However I drive a high performance car sometimes and it has made me concentrate on my speed more, tha:mellow:nks again for posting
