Brands Transfers Assessment;

Gbamin either deserves a 1 or a not ranked.

Not sure how Branthwaite gets a 7 and Nkounkou gets a 6 either.

Then again like most of these things its just a list of names with numbers arbitrarily attached to them.

I think the echo were very generous. Mine I feel are closer. Some not the players fault but...

…yep, it’s not so much the Echo ratings but posters own overall assessment of how he’s done.

I’m a bit on the fence with Brands. The problem with individual scores is they don’t account for the lack of pace, athleticism in key areas & the lack of attacking threat in wide areas.

I guess what I’m saying, it’s as much about who he’s failed to bring in as it about those he has brought in.

I have to say some of those are way higher than I would put. 2 PL goals in 2 years for a 30m pound signing gets a 5/10? King hardly played and didn't have one goal involvement but gets a 5? What do you have to do to get under 5?
I don't know but if someone like Delph can get a four , I think the reporter must of got his leg over which put him in a generous mood .
I know I'm banging on about it but I hate Delph .Despise him .

Gbamin should be unrated as we don't know what we've got and tbh what we eventually see may not be what it would have been before the injuries.

Delph is worth a 1 or 2. Kean should be higher IF he turns a profit for us.

Gbamin can't really be given more than a 2 because he's made one start and 2 sub appearances in 2 years. It's fair to heavily caveat that one though because the bad luck the lad has suffered has been almost unbelievable. It's gone very badly wrong but it's one of those things where no one is to blame.

Hard to defend a lot of the other moves though.

When you look at all Brands' signings in the round, You would be generally satisfied if you were happy to stay around mid to low in the Prem. For a club that has, supposedly, ambitions to break into the 'Sky Six' they are mainly a bit meh.

Thought this might be worth it’s own thread & a useful reference to capture Brands dealings in one place.

Ahead of this window, The Echo has analysed his 21 signings and scored them out of 10;

Richarlison 9
Digne 9
Virginia 7
Bernard 6
Mina 7
Gomes 6
Zooma 8
Lossl 4
Delph 4
Gbamin 5
Kean 6
Sidebe 6
Iwobi 5
Branthwaite 7
Nkounkou 6
Allan 8
Rodriguez 8
Doucoure 8
Godfrey 9
Olsen 7
King 5

Always an engaging topic of conversation regarding how we think he’s done.
Incredibly biased in favour of Brands. My highest would be a 7 and lowest would be a zero. Did he even watch Richarlison last season... He was a 5...

Very Very generous scoring there.

But some of these are players wanted by managers, we cant judge brands on this process

I am often baffled by this thought process. Not once has it ever been said that a manager can't suggest/ask for particular players. Brands has to agree them. He can veto them - allegedly this happened with Mandzukic and some others.

It feels a lot like people will point to obvious ones which were suggested by the then-manager like Richarlison, Allan and James and give Brands no credit but lay the blame/give credit for everything else.

The point here is that Brands gives the Ok to suggested signings, whether they come from our scouting dept or from the manager - it doesn't really matter, he isn't responsible for finding them, he's responsible for agreeing the targets.

Think most of them are accurate. Brands has proven he can bring in good players. People complaining about the likes of Richarlison, but we'll double our money if we decided to sell him, similarly with Kean etc.
