DIC were about to acquire virtually all of Gillette's shares (98% to be precise) giving them 49% of the Company owning Liverpool FC. Hicks was to buy the other 1% giving him 51%.

When Hicks and Gillette bought Liverpool last year part of the agreement was that either could only sell shares if the other agreed. Therefore Hicks could, and has blocked Gillette's sale to DIC.

Not that US soaps aren't trashy, but it isn't like the UK soaps are any better. I have horrible, horrible childhood memories of Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders. [Poor language removed] shows, the lot.

Don't laugh but during college, I got hooked on One Life To Live and General Hospital. Would set up the VCR to tape them (ah the good old days...no DVR back then) and then watch about 6 hours in a row while fast forwarding through the commercials.
