Broadband Renewal

Pootsy

Player Valuation: £20m
Why is it so awkward to get a renewal for any contract these days? My current Broadband provider who we'll refer to as Sly for legal reasons, are asking £40 but a new customer could get a brand new router and the same deal for £28. Called and asked to be treated as a new customer and got told best we can do is £36.

I don't think so

So off to TB I for for £28pm for 2 years. But I'll have to put a new Wifi code into everything which is a polava but not £12pm polava.

Boils my wee wee.

Are there any other examples of anti-consumerism that you would like to enlighten the group with?

Whilst I agree an existing customer should be rewarded for their loyalty, unless you've had to deal with either of the two state owned Internet providers in the UAE I have very little sympathy.

For your 28 pounds a month, what kind of speed are you getting?

I m currently with virgin and do the renewal dance every year. Last year it only took 1 phone call to get the previous contract price whereas previously it took several and down to the wire regards timing.

Still paying under £25 pm which is better than the initial £35-£40 they try to put it up to.

This year we have an alternative fibre provider too which they will no doubt be aware of so I have another card to play.

You can access a new router from a web browser and put in the same WiFi code all your kit already knows to save that palava. You'd also have to change the ssid name to match the old one. Its easier than it sounds. There'll be instructions on the Internet somewhere.

I was happy with plusnet "i cant believe its fibre even though its in the name" until I opted for fibre and went with gigaclear "actual fibre" at 20 a month for 18 months. After that it goes to 40 which seems to be the price all these parasites seem to have agreed to normalise/get away with.

Daft when you think for a tenner I could use my mobile as a router and use 70Gb a month with idmobile.

Paying £55 at the moment for BT 150mb. Can cut that in half and get double the speed with Virgin. So now begins the merry dance of negotiation between current provider and potential new provider. Broadband, phone contract and car insurance all up for renewal over the next 2 months. Alongside switching electric and gas suppliers. Like a 2nd job all this admin.

Just change the SSID and p/w on the BT hub to the same as the sky router. That way, you don't have to reconnect all of your devices.

I used the Mobile as a router when we had a static caravan and it worked well but my son does PS5 gaming (when he's home) so needs the bandwidth, even though he now lives in Cardiff where he's at Uni. The things you do for your kids.

Never thought about changing the SSID and password of my own router to I just piggyback the line into my hub. Good plan squire!

Try calling BT and haggle. I've done it a few times with a few providers and usually they match the competitors price as a minimum.

It's arse pain, for sure.

I moved house and told sky.
They said £60 ,to reconnect.
I said no,I'll just cancel and start again at new address.
Eventually they agreed to do it for nothing.
